Hi all!

I just joined mothering.com. My name's V, I'm 31 and pregnant with my first baby. I am 8 weeks along now and due in September.

I'm currently trying to figure out what kind of birth I want, maybe a little early.. but I just scheduled my first prenatal appointment with an OBgyn and was a bit weirded out. So I've been also looking into midwives and am planning to contact a few next week.

I'm interested in water births, not sure if I'd want a home birth though. But I want to try my best to not get scared by any doctors or the "industry", and instead make my pregnancy an empowering experience.

There are so many of us in this Club already! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Congratulations Joanatron! My mother is exactly the same; she's been nagging me to get married since I got pregnant with my first. This time she was really trying to guilt trip me into it. For some reason she also decided that she had a say on what we name the baby.

I hope you feel better soon, I'm due on the 4th and I'm still feeling sick all the time. Hopefully we'll both get some relief soon!

Humboldt county, CA

Love to talk with anyone local! Getting ready to sign up for prenatal yoga. This will be our first birth in this area (Stephen was born in Santa Cruz county) and I already have recommendations for two homebirth friendly doctors should I feel led to line up emergency back-up or have any tests run this time around. But I have yet to connect with the birth community here, haven't made it to Fortuna for LLL yet, so I'd be happy to hear from you. Breastfeeding since 1997, tandem nursing 2 at the moment, 6 yo just self-weaned, my first to not be completely pushed into it. We unschool, 2nd generation homeschooler. My mom birthed both my younger sibs at home, I was a hospital baby.

We don't do any ultrasounds- had doppler exposure during pregnancy #1, #5 (1 time proof of pregnancy,) that's it. Grew up and birthed most of my kids in TN, so yes we know about the Farm. 17 years of research has yet to indicate to me that any of the diagnostic tests that are routinely run on pregnant women are in in any way useful. God told us we were having a special needs child and the same spirit we miscarried in 98, in 2001 and 200, so we felt prepared for that. Ran a natural childbirth support group, supporting a spectrum ranging from natural in the hospital to uc, for three years in Memphis, TN. LOVE Carla Hartley, but haven't made it to any trustbirth events. Oh we also do elimination communication since finding out about the western practice in 2000 when Elisabeth was 3 months.

Namaste!

How I didn't get into all these Sept due date discussions till now, I am not sure, LOL.

Here goes for those of you that may not have read any of my posts yet....

Shannon, 41 year old, single and now happily due 9/26, G5 P3, Momma to Nathan 18, Austin 16 and Brendan 13. I  miscarried my first, had a typical american C/S with Nathan and then a typical? VBAC with Austin which went fairly well considering it was also an induction. I chose midwifery care with Brendan and wanted a birth center birth but at 42 weeks needed to start another induction at the hospital. after three hrs, I said to turn off the pitocin and I stayed in labor and had a wonderful labor experience after that and delivered a 9lb healthy boy. I never get epidurals and his birth was completely pain med free. I am choosing to deliver in the hospital where I work in Maternity for two reasons, my insurance will not cover the birth center and I would have to pay out of pocket (I struggle at times to afford life as it is) and I need my girls, my coworkers around me. They are amazing! I do not live near family and these girls ARE my family. Since the father of the baby does not want to be involved at this point, I need my girls even more :) I LOVE my midwives! I know that I can still have a very natural birth as my coworkers know me ;) and so do my midwives :) I am so hoping to not have any pitocin at all this time around. My mother is extremely supportive and excited  and will be with me in everything

littleBubu -different doctors have different standard care.  Some won't see you until 12 weeks, some will do a "dating" ultrasound at 8 weeks, some offer to do a dopler ultrasound to hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks, some 12 weeks.  With my first, I just rolled with whatever my OB said we would that appointment.  I ended up very unhappy in the end, so I am taking a more educated, looking everything up myself, kind of approach.

esenbee2--- when i go see the doctor on Monday i'm hoping to hear babies heartbeat....and i'll be sure to ask what to expect at each visit....lol. My bestfriend recommended this doctor and i've met him when her baby was born too. I do like him. I just need to ask more questions...LOL Thank you!

Hey everyone! My name is T.

I am 28 and I was born and raised in Silicon Valley of the SF Bay Area, California. This is my first pregnancy and I'm about 11 weeks and some odd days. I will be 12 weeks on Friday (3/15). This pregnancy is a complete surprise. I've always been a career-minded girl after I finished college so this was not in my immediate plans at all. I didn't know I was pregnant until I was about 9 weeks along since I had no symptoms of sickness or any other early signs of pregnancy.

I work in San Francisco as a technical manager for a small tech company in the heart of Downtown SF. I had this whole "Sex in the City" vibe going on before this pregnancy so I'm adjusting big time. My fiance is a 29 year old, technology risk auditor for one of the Big 4 and works 1-block away from me in the City. He and I have been together for about 4 years and were going to get married this year but this surprise caught us off guard and now we're making additional plans for our +1. He's completely excited and started to "nest" even before I am!

I was on BCP for 13 years straight until I got way busy with work, life and living that forgot my pills at home on a surprise trip to Vegas. We were gone for 4 days (I was in between cycles.) I literally missed my pills for 5~ days but that was enough. I always thought that our bodies needed just a little time to recover after being on BCP for so long but this is not even close to true at all. Our first clue I was pregnant: my fiance was doing our taxes and our credit card statement reflected a high jump in food spending. LOL!!

Needless to say, I don't have the slightest clue what I'm doing (as a mom) but I am positive that I'm a quick learner. smile.gif

The baby is due on Sept 26th. My 29th birthday is Sept 15th so this baby might steal my thunder. J/k!  We went to our first prenatal appointment and heard/saw the baby's heartbeat for the first time. It just made everything so much more real and amazing! I'm glad to have read a bunch of introductions on this thread and to e-meet you all. See you all around on Mothering!

Thank you! Oh awesome. From my understanding, only 5% of babies come on their EDD so I'm just happy it's in the month of Sept. joy.gif

Hi, I would like to join. I've been lurking a bit but not joining because I didn't want to jinx myself. I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow, so I guess I'm finally feeling safe. A little bit about myself: I just turned 30 last week, and this is my first pregnancy. It took 14 months (that's 16 cycles) to get here, and I'm very thankful to be pregnant. I've had morning (all the time) sickness for 2.5 months now. I think it's starting to get better, but we'll see. We had an ultrasound at 8 weeks, and we got to hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks. Everything's looking good so far! My due date is September 12 (according to counting that is wrong due to my short cycles), but babies don't follow a strict 40 week schedule anyway. :-)
