I LOVE your work!!! Gorgeous!! Love the birds and placement. If I had your little tummy, I'd so have some there I'm seriously obsessed with your dogs law print!!! I've wanted to get a tat for my pup I lost in 09 but haven't been able to decide what. I also have a mother/daughter tat picked out I'm gonna get for Mira after she's born

What are you most looking forward to about having a third baby? And I know you are waiting to be surprised abt the gender but are you having any "feelings" either way?

As someone who has had the ability to travel some over the years I've learned how important it is to me that my children experience that as well. What are some places you feel would be child friendly around maybe 10 or younger?

I noticed your tattoos in the belly thread too and I was wondering if you've had any stretching/stretch mark issues with the ones one your tummy?

I'd also love to hear the back story (no pun intended) on your back piece as well, it's really interesting!

Yikes!  I never realized there were like four questions I didn't answer here.

I am lucky in that I never got any bad stretching with my birds.  This is what they looked like at their most stretched out:

And this is what they looked like 2 weeks postpartum:

I have been overall pleased with how well they have held up.  :)  I have a couple of really faint silvery stretch marks on my hips, but they don't cut into the birdies at all.

The backpiece is based on a dream I had when I was in my early-mid twenties that felt really meaningful and featured the first house I had lived in (so that's the house in the tattoo...he drew it in a kind-of dreamy state based on a picture.  Total old Brooklyn row house.).  I brought the dream idea to my tattoo artists and we worked on it for a couple of months before it had the affect and composition I wanted.  I really love it.  Someone once said to me "it's like having a really great book illustration on your body" and I really like that description!

Honestly, I think a lot of places (possibly most?) can be child friendly if you plan it right.  It's less about the particular location, I think, and more about what you do what you're there, ensuring you have lots of downtime (for example, my husband and I NEVER plan foreign travel anymore that hits several cities without also planning a couple of days at a beach or at something very chill -- like once we stayed at an animal preserve in a jungle where there was nothing to do besides be on that preserve, eat at the dining  hall, etc), ensuring you're not go-go-go-go trying to get from one place to another too often.  I think now I would almost always find accommodations via something like AirBnB so we could rent a small apt instead of a hotel room.  I think with kids, having a bit of homespace with a KITCHEN is key.  There's nothing worse than having to eat in restaurants with tired cranky children!

What is the tattoo going to be?  I love the name Mira BTW.  :)

I am looking forward to a third iteration of what is already my favorite part of having two kids ...seeing all the ways in which they are similar and different.  It is delightful, and astounding, and never gets old to see the ways in which you can use the same genetic matter to "create" these two kids and yet have them be so THEMselves, right from the beginning.  I am really looking forward to meeting this baby and looking into his/her eyes after the birth and noticing all the ways s/he resembles his/her in-utero presence.  I am excited to see my kids develop relationships with another sibling.  And of course I am looking forward to newborn smells and noises and all that cute stuff.

I am not sure really.  This pregnancy has been *a lot* more similar to my daughter's but I am not sure that means anything.  When I picture the baby, I picture my son as a newborn, but I am not sure that means anything either (since he was, of course, the last baby to inhabit my womb!).  I guess I would say if pressed I lean towards a girl but a boy wouldn't totally surprise me either.  They both make sense and also sound incredibly improbable.

And they will work in some purple lilies (in honor of my mom) and maybe her name Mira Klaire or something like MIRAcles happen or maybe a bible verse... Not sure abt that yet lol but I love the mom/daughter image

And I'm SOOOO excited to see what your having!!! We've always said if we ever had 2 kids (one of each) the third would be a surprise

Hi There,

Question from a fellow urban mama: what is life like without a car?

We have gone from having two cars to sharing one. We currently live one block from the public transportation metro system - my work is just a 20 min. ride away. We are thinking about potentially selling our car. It would save us a considerable amount of money. And (once we got used to it) would be a great lifestyle change. 

Any insight? Advice?
