Traveling overseas with 4-year old DD

Hi Awesome moms!

I hope I am posting in the correct forum.

We are traveling to Kuala Lumpur in a couple of weeks and am wondering about the car seat situation. 

Has anyone traveled overseas with a child and what did you do about your car seat? 

Any suggestions and advice will be very helpful!  Thank you!

I lived abroad in Asia for several years and i have visited Malaysia. It is much easier to have a car seat if you have a private car, and it really sucks to drag around a car seat if you're taking taxis/ public transportation. It might be easier, especially. As your daughter is 4 to bring an easily installed booster instead of a car seat.

Are you going to be using private cars?  Taxis?  I don't know the public transit situation in Kuala Lumpur, but when we went to Asia (Japan) we just used public transit and busses (like the charter busses, this was for tours).  So we had no need to bring a car seat at all.  If you'll be using a car minimally, I'd bring a bubble bum and just sit by your dd to make sure she is sitting ok.  I don't know if all the cars will have seatbelts either, I know in Thailand they don't always!
