Doll diapers for a Christmas gift.

#38

Gift basket for a charity donation. I sewed the adult/child aprons, my grandma made the potholders, and I put everything else together. It was a make cookies/cocoa basket. It went for twice what I put into it, so that was cool!

And jammies to match!

#41

Hi Ladies!

I made my mom the sewing machine/serger covers and they turned out beyond fabulous :)  I am in love with them.  I really really need to make myself a set.  Surprisingly they took quite a bit of fabric (why did I think my scraps would work?) so I switched to calico scraps and white on white dots with a muslin lining.   I did the measuring tape and crocheted lace trip with rick rack and buttons and piping and and and  I will post a pic on my fb after I give it to her so you all can see- but fabulous :)

I replaced the zipper on my DS1 polar king coat (like a barn work coat)- that was fun and since it broke about 5 minutes after I got home from the craft store he had the choice of a red or cream zipper on his brown coat- so red it was and it works and all- just loud colored.

My girlfriend and I worked on diapers on Saturday.  She got a whole flannel sheet cut into diapers and I made her 3 pul covers and recycled a merino sweater into Longies and a double thick cover.  it was a brown sweater so I used blue foe and then appliquéd a  blue dolphin on it- probably the cutest diaper cover ever...  She should be set on covers- but not on diapers yet.  I suggested we just cut flannel sheets the size of flats and serge the edges- but she really likes the fitted ones I gave her as a baby gift....  I just don't have time or desire to do more of those- they are pretty tedious unless I use fun flannel at least.

Today I would love to finish up doll clothes for my niece, the waldorf doll for my other niece and a potato sack handbag for myself.  These are all almost done- just need a little push to finish :)  My family also has stockings where we all contribute a little something in every stocking (super fun cause you never never know..) and I was wanting to do some cute little zippered pouches for all the girls this year so I should work on that too.

Lately I have made

a lap blanket for my MIL

A hot mitt

A wool barrette for my daughter that I am totally taking a point for even though it's just one little barrette because I sewed it in the car on the way to Thanksgiving dinner (because my daughter was worried that her outfit wasn't festive enough)and the streets of Chicago are not really known for being pothole free. Ouch!

And finished a bass bag for my daughter.

45/52. Getting there!

I have sewing ADD at the moment, largely brought on by the panic of finding out how much I have to get done before Christmas... and the logistics of only being able to sew non-Christmas presents when DD is awake.

Anyway, thus far I've finished three button-up shirts for DS and a terribly-cute-if-I-do-say-so-myself bonnet for a friend's new baby. I've also cut out the fabric for a sunhat, mostly cut out the fabric for a vintagey summer dress, cut out the pattern for another summer dress and mostly completed a surprisingly complicated drop-waisted knit dress with a lace overlay and ruffled skirt - all for DD.

Before Christmas I still have to finish DH's manly apron (tricky when he's always around), design and make DD's Wonder Woman costume, make DS a hat as well, make two presents for twins who had the poor taste to be born on December 23, design and make DD a nightie (her current favourite one is torn, 30 years old and covered in paint), and finish all my WIPs. Finishing up her summer quilt in time for Christmas? HAH. And then there's all the *post*-Christmas sewing, including three more Disney princess tops and something, anything, for me to wear in LA. Oh, and DD's raincoat. Shoot. Forgot all about that.

Smokering- good luck :)

I finished up the doll clothes for my niece and finished the doll for my baby niece (I have got to still get some clothes made for that one).  So I have been making bits of progress.  Since I have been feeling frumptastic I was thinking about finishing my new burlap purse and making myself some boot toppers and a scarf/cowl out of that cashmere sweater I have sitting there.  I gave up on making myself a hat- because surprisingly Sears had the perfect one :)  So I just went ahead because my head has been cold and DD took my favorite hat that my DH can't stand.  So all in all $11 well spent lol.

But!  I did finish up my Christmas shopping :)  Complete with stockings but minus the food/treats I am putting in the stockings lol.

Thanks Iowa! I'm currently seething about stoopid non-Ottobre patterns - the 'small' hat size for DS exactly fitted his head circumference, but now I've half sewn it up, it's very snug. I'll finish it anyway; not sure if I can be bothered making a larger size. It does go on, it's just tight. Grr.

Congrats on finishing your Christmas shopping! I haven't. Even with buying one Christmas present every month this year, which did help to some degree, I'm still panicking over the last few... OK, several. Then again, it wouldn't feel very Christmassy if I'd done all my shopping, now would it?

I finished my potato sack bag :)  It is cute!  I used an Etsy pic for inspiration but mine turned out better!   Tomorrow I must finish the doll clothes for my baby niece though.  And then on my cashmere set....

I made a felted wool sweater blanket for my sister and her family! And hopefully after today I will have some pillows made to add to that.

I woke up at 2:30 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I crafted :)  I made the outfits for the pocket pals- they could fit better- but at this point I really don't care as long as they aren't naked- especially since one is a gift for Saturday.  I had lost my patterns for the clothes- so I was really just winging it anyway.

I mended DD2s alpaca sweater she wore when she was little.  Our dog ate part of the button band- so I fixed that and sewed on a new button.  Then as I was admiring my work I realized how filthy that thing was so I washed and blocked it and it is fantastic again :)

I cut up my cashmere sweater and made a pair of leg warmers and a big cowl for myself.  I would like to embellish the legwarmers- but they are fine for now I guess.

I sewed a bunch of little quilt blocks together for part of my sewing machine and serger covers....  I would like to get those done- but am out of piping yet again (how can it take that much?).

I should finish up DD1s doll clothes today so that that can just be done.  I didn't make as many as I had wanted but there is always the future :)  And this will give her enough to mix and match and have fun with.

Yesterday I made a pleather and flame coin purse for my brother. He loves it!

I guess I have been really crafty for the last 40 weeks - I made people! Tomorrow I have an induction scheduled since although I have had contractions since Wed 2 pm, my boys have not made an appearance.

Wow, exciting! Hope it all goes well. :) I'm not usually a huge fan of posing newborn babies in gift boxes under the Christmas tree for cheesy photos, but in this case I think you could get away with it. :p

Recently I've made DD two dresses for Christmas presents and a hat that makes her look like the Queen Mother. I'm currently working, grumpily and half-heartedly, on her Sleeping Beauty top, which will look tacky no matter what I do because I bought panne velvet in mistake for stretch velour. Bah humbug. And I'm halfway through a fancy headband, and need to do a second one as well by Sunday. Twin birthday party. Need to do DH's apron too, but no idea when I'll be able to - he's around all the time!

Anyway, I'm hoping to get all the boring, has-to-be-done sewing finished before Christmas, so that afterwards I can focus on sewing a ton of clothes for me. I have distressingly close to nothing to wear to Disneyland. (Sheesh, talk about first world problems...)

Merry Christmas everyone!

I gave up on finishing DD's Wonder Woman costume by Christmas Day after a) I prewashed the white jersey with the red jersey and created pink jersey, and b) my sewing machine broke. And I mean BROKE. Turning it off and on again, taking off the plate, adjusting the bobbin case, cleaning out the fluff, rethreading, watching intently as I manually did a stitch to see where the problem was, sanding off rough bits on various pieces... all to no avail. It's good and borked.

I did make DD a hasty shirred-top skirt on Christmas Eve to pad out a stocking that was less full than I'd hoped, but it's a very unpretty object on the wrong side - I basically had to drag the fabric through and ignore the many loops forming on the underside. Weirdness. I also made DH a manly apron on Christmas Eve - dark brown with a cream B appliqued on it - which he likes, but I couldn't use nice topstitching thread like I'd planned because the machine just wouldn't.

The good news is - DH said I can get a new machine! I'm fond of my basic Janome, but it would be nice to upgrade. Mine lacks a honeycomb stitch, which a lot of Ottobre patterns recommend for flatlocking if you don't have a serger. I'd also like a bigger throat for quilting (not that I really quilt, but I might if it didn't involve so much wadding up!), a walking foot, automatic thread cutters, a choice between the needle stopping in the up or down position, a stitch lock feature, and... what else? Can't remember.

Any suggestions? DH says I can spend up to around $1000 (NZ, though, so maybe US$800 or $900 - but he's flexible). I've been looking, and it seems like the Brother PC-420 Project Runway model and the Singer 9960 are strong contenders. Anyone? I never planned to upgrade my machine for years yet, so I'm not at all familiar with brands or models. I know Pfaff is good but really expensive, and that's about as far as my general knowledge goes! I don't need a truly super-duper, able-to-embroider-a-five-foot-hundred-colour-Colosseum-at-the-touch-of-a-button monster, but I do feel I'm beyond the beginner stage now, and I'd like to get a really good machine that'll last me, which I won't outgrow in the next few years. You know? And I do sew a LOT - recently, nearly every day - so I want a workhorse.

Christmas being over, my next projects are Disneyland-related. Have to finish DD's Aurora costume, make two more princess tops to take with us for a friend, do DD's raincoat if I get time, and make CLOTHES FOR ME! I'm seriously low on wearable items right now.

Ooh, I'm in for next year. I've been stalking this thread all year but didn't join because I knew I wouldn't have much time. Next year DD1 starts kindy and DH is dying to start doing some one-on-one activities with DD2. Yay!!

@Smokering - sorry about your machine dying at just the wrong time. I think there is something wrong with mine too. It is going really slowly when it gets hot. I'm hoping a service will fix it. Very exciting that you can get a new one though!

I am totally in for next year too. I am hoping I can fix my sewing machine myself, but if not it will have to go to the shop. Not giving up my 40+ year old Necchi machine :)

I have a tenative list of projects in mind for next year too

Well, I'm borrowing Mum's old - and I mean OLD - Janome for now. It's great, actually. Loud and clunky, but it sews like butter. And her bobbin case stays put! Mine... did not. I suspect that was part of the problem.

I suddenly got inspired to make clothes for me - partly for Disneyland, partly for day-to-day summer wear. I've nearly finished a grey dress - rather cunning, if I do say so meself - with a horizontal zip hidden under a band just under the bust, like a high-waisted skirt, but still fairly tight-fitting until the natural waist, so as to avoid the Empire waist look (which is cute in the right context, but makes me look pregnant). It's cute. :) Just need to iron and tack down the armscye facings and hem it - meanwhile it's hanging while I start one of my Butterick Retro patterns. It's the sailorish one with the huge shawl collar.

I'm making the full-skirted version. And after that I'll use the wiggle skirt pattern to make an actual high-waisted pencil skirt, mostly to see if it looks OK on me. If it does I'll use the same pattern and a MacGyvered top to make yet another slightly sailorish dress I designed this morning and really want. Whew!

Here are a couple of DD's Christmas presents and a shirt of DS'.
