Im waiting on the maintence guy to do some minor repairs, and before that they started doing.some construction outside our window. We need to start grocery shopping this afternoon and then pay our overdue electric bill. Thanks to hubbys overtime we were able to pay down the cc bill more, yay. My skin is going crazy so Im hoping to grab a nice olive oil bath later tonight. Cheap and works wonders.post #943 of 14059/19/13 at 10:01am
Finally- my husband is starting some field work! This is a big help as it's an extra boost to his pay for each job he gets called out to do- even as much as $500-$1000 every two weeks.
The light at the end of the tunnel appears to have been relit.
I decided to splurge on frozen pizza for lunch after the kids and I walked past the outside of the local pizza place and just about drooled down the sidewalk. I couldn't validate a $20 pizza, but they were on sale- the rising crust sort- for $4.99. Totally unnecessary, but so worth it.post #944 of 14059/19/13 at 10:02ampost #945 of 14059/19/13 at 11:07am
I get so tired of always cheerfully saying, "No, we have yummy food at home!" It feels so nice to say yes sometimes. The kids loved it, and we have a very sensible dinner planned, so we will keep the overall food spending low for the day.
But it is so hard to always be endlessly broke that when I can find the extra couple bucks for a treat, I spend it on a treat for everyone. I even let the kids have a movie on the couch quiet time today instead of napping upstairs or reading.post #946 of 14059/19/13 at 4:26pm
I'm getting a little burnt out too lately Rainbow. I understand that. The baby was absolutely exhausting today. She screamed for a long time this afternoon because she was so miserable and tired and yet I could not get her to nap. I tried everything. I just gave her back and my kids will be back from dinner at daddy's house in 30minutes. *sigh* Tomorrow is payday thankfully. I have to put everyone on the bus, run to the grocery store, run home and put everything away, get showered, dressed, and run to work for 10. Then I have to leave work to get my oldest off the bus and then the younger ones 30 minutes later. I'm tired already.
And good god, the money won't stop flowing from my acct. My oldest brought home a permission slip to sell candy bars as a fundraiser for a field trip in a few months that costs $220!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a 3 day "nature's classroom" trip where they are staying in cabins in a rural part of the state not too far away doing team-building exercises and hiking and such. That amt covers all food and expenses. But man alive! That's not cheap. SOOOOOOO, daddy is bringing a box of candy bars to work and so is our neighbor. We'll do some door-to-door and beg relatives to buy as well and hopefully cover $.50 per bar towards their trip. So we'd have to sell 440 candy bars in order to cover her whole trip. Not gonna happen. And there's no financial aid available since they are fundraising.
-payday is tomorrow!
-My diligence in the garden is paying off. My broccoli seedlings are looking strong, very few cabbage worms. My green beans should be flourishing any day now. There's still a few tomatoes ripening. Our single small watermelon will be picked soon and enjoyed. And shockingly enough, on a plant that has had root rot for months, we finally have a tiny pumpkin growing. It might be ready for CHRISTMAS but it's there.
-I finished applesauce for the entire year.

I had a nice post all written up but my tablet ate it. Boo.
I hear you ladies on feeling burnt out. I'm trying very hard not to get lax and/or frivolous now that we have a few extra dollars. I do know I need to hit up a thrift store for some clothes soon though, I'm down to three outfits. And my son just dumped pretty much all my perfume out.
Justmama, that is a heck of a field trip. On one hand, that kind of money really hurts to come up with. And wowso, that's for each kid, that's an expensive trip! On the other hand it could be a great experience for her. Hopefully it works out. Hubby was able to go to europe his senior year and it was one of the highlights of his life.
I am getting a printer/scanner from my mom. I'm also buying extra ink from her for 20 bucks, plus the printer/scanner has ink in it. Score! I'll probably end up freecycling the printer I have now.
My body is going crazy. My hair has turned total frizz, my skin is dry and flaky, and I'm getting one of those horrible pimples that sits under the skin and hurts. WTF, feeling like I'm fifteen, lol. I am doing some cheapo self pampering and waiting for this hormonal influx to be over.
My children are truly, truly driving me bonkers today. Anyone need a four year old of their very own? Hubby and I are getting a few hours of childfree time on Saturday. To go to Costco...oh the romance. My children have a birthday party they will be absolutely heartbroken to miss but Saturday is the easiest day to do our shopping and my mom was nice enough to agree to watch them a few hours and take them to the party.
My sil has put me into an awkward situation again. The reason that Saturday is the best day to do our costco run is that Sunday is our day to see my youngest nephew for his birthday. They are coming over here. I messaged her today to doublecheck that we were giving out presents Sunday and basically said, You are coming over for Nephews birthday, right? She messages back, Yeah, Kinda, but I don't have money for a cake or anything. Da Da Da. If you recall (because I know you are so interested in my life you remember all the details, lol), this just happened recently with her oldest son. At the last minute I had them come over, made brownies, made dinner, etc because otherwise she wasn't going to do anything for his birthday. I have a feeling she is testing to see if I'll be responsible for all the birthdays now. And the kicker, oh the kicker. In the past two weeks she just bought a brand new car. BRAND NEW. Like 2013, like 12 miles on it when she drove it off the lot. She's paying about four hundred bucks a month for this thing. But ya know, she just cannot afford a cake for her kid. Dude, I'm finally to a point I'm not completely counting change but still trying to make up for that time we couldn't do anything extra and things have fallen apart. And debts, and the holidays. I cannot help fund your life, kwim? But I feel bad for him that he might get screwed out of a birthday so I'll try to make some brownies or pick up some cookies at costco, etc. At least I know that his will love the gifts we got him.post #949 of 14059/20/13 at 12:47pmpost #950 of 14059/20/13 at 1:29pm
Oh how sad. Maybe she could have gone for a cheaper car. I would probably be a sucker in that situation- buying or making a cake just so there was something, you know? But how frustrating!
It is SO COLD here right now. I am a bit worried about how bad it will be this winter. I have someone coming out to service the furnace as soon as possible, but in the meantime, my furnace seems to want to turn itself off on a regular basis- annoying! I need to go get some of that plastic you can blowdry to shrink to put on the windows soon. Oh, and I need to go do the fall shoe/boot run sometime soon, too. Money keeps leaving the account....post #951 of 14059/20/13 at 5:19pm
RainbowAsylum, the problem is she didn't want a cheaper car. She really had no "need" to get rid of her other car, she just thought she deserved something new. She has expensive cable, an expensive cell phone bill, etc, but when it comes time to buy her son a cake she has no money. Unfortunately this is a trend. She likes to pretend she is struggling very much (furniture falling to pieces and unsafe, no food in her fridge, no gas, etc.) but it comes down to her putting her wants before her children's and her having a horrible inability to budget. I will probably make a batch of brownies or get some cookies from costco. At least I heard she is supposed to be bringing meat from her freezer over for dinner when hubby spoke to her. We have potatoes and corn on the cob both abundance so I can make sides easily enough.
Making a batch of chicken stock for roast I plan on doing either Sunday night or Monday. The kiddos had various leftovers for lunch and for dinner I'm making a vegetarian pumpkin chili and some kind of garlic bread/rolls. It's gloomy so I just want to doze and watch movies, lol. I looked through my closet this afternoon and was able to pull together some "new" outfits since fall is coming. So yeah for getting out of a rut! I also am probably getting a coffee table from freecycle. And lastly, I'm grateful I was able to help a family that is restarting in a rental home after a fire took almost everything. I was only able to give them cleaning rags and supplies (glass cleaner, duster/wood cleaner, air freshener, carpet cleaner-my hubby works in a factory that manufactures all this). It was nice to see so many others lending a hand as well-people were offering living room furniture, a bed, etc.post #952 of 14059/21/13 at 6:00am
Glad to see everyone in better spirits...It has been hard getting online during the week now that I am back to work and L is back to school...Busy Busy Busy..Plus I care for E 3 nights a week and help my mom out the other days so she can get out of the house for a few hours..My dad is bedridden and can't be left alone...So what has been happening with us?
I now keep 1 year old E 3 nights a week..the $$ is so welcome and L loves having someone to play with..He isn't a difficult baby and goes with the flow so no problem there...
I just did my review...My FS got cut $100 a month...I asked why and she said it is government cuts.. :(
L is struggling in school...she is recieving specials for reading and writing...Hmmm...she just turned 6 and can't read or write like a 5th grader...I despise public school....the private school deal I wanted to send her to fell through...
L is having problems with her hearing...We go to the Ped on the 4th...teacher says she can't seem to hear low tones and distinquish sounds...she is in the front row and still having issues...her last tube fell out last year...I am very concerned with this :(
Job is going okay...I start my classes on Fridays next month..so not looking forward to the drive there and back...Espessially this winter... Crappy winter Northern roads stink in Feburary and March...Praying for a mild winter to get me through....
Well the card is filled today so we are going to fill the freezer with meat and frozen vegetables...I also am stopping at the Farmers Market..they have a great sale on Pears..I want to get a bunch to make hm Cinnamon Pearsauce to get us through the winter...L is allergic to apples so we make this instead...and it makes my house smell so good while it's cooking :)
Making a batch of hm laundry soap tonight as well...that will last several months and save $$$
Went to Goodwill yesterday and found 3 long sleeved work shirts for me(this is great because I am bigger on top and it's hard to find good used clothes that fit) and a cute Purple and Pink John Deere sweatshirt Hoodie for L...
Hope everyone is doing okay...I am just trying to get us ready for winter..I tend to hybernate when not working or school/church and don't like to go out in the cold much so I want to stock up as much as possible so I don't have to be out in it....I love being home again but the really cold weather not so much....LOLpost #953 of 14059/21/13 at 3:38pm
So will you guys disown me and not let me post in this thread if I am wearing Prada sunglasses? Isn't it ridiculous? So yeah, Prada. I'm so fashionable. haha. My work lets you borrow sunglasses to wear and try out and I'm borrowing a pair of Prada next week. And next month they are doing an associate appreciation event and we can buy up to 5 pairs for 50% off. I desperately need a pair and I can maybe afford them at 50% off. MAYBE. All day long I sell $200 and $300 pairs of Versace or Dolce sunglasses and my own are $10 scratched up glasses I stole from my exhusband.
-I made my sales goal for the week so I get commission.
-A little bit of breathing room this coming week in my schedule. I actually have days off. Not good for hte bank acct but great for my sanity.
-the kids begged to go by that school that has the garden after work today and I got a TON of tomatoes free.
-I forgot a container of eggs in my trunk yesterday after shopping and I just found them today. I was gonna throw them out but I floated them in water and none of them were bad. They all need to be used asap and cooked in baked goods and none are fresh for eating but at least they won't be wasted. Waffles for breakfast tomorrow. Kids will be happy. And I surely won't do that again!post #954 of 14059/21/13 at 3:41pm
I went to meet the giant rescue dog today- and somehow she wound up coming home with me. She's a great dog, but at barely 2 (and I suspect that is stretching it) still very much a puppy in need of learning some basic manners.
I took her for a training walk around the block and I was worn out by the time we got home. (Heel! Sit! Don't sniff the flowers!) I am out of practice with a dog weighing over 100 lbs. She did well though, and it will force me to get off my butt and out for more walks to get the basics trained. The kids of course, adore her. The youngest was a bit fearful, but once he was introduced he was great.
I am somewhat strapped for cash for a couple days, but I think we will manage. I wound up having to pay a bill I wasn't anticipating, but for once I actually had the money available when it came in the mail. Still, I would rather have the money in the bank account!
The weather is getting increasingly cold at night, and our furnace is still being touchy, so I scheduled a furnace guy to come out. Luckily, that expense can be spread out over the annual heating bills in several instalments. I am tired of freezing my ass off in the morning. Brr!post #955 of 14059/21/13 at 9:56pmLet's just say after reading 6+ pages I'm finally all caught up on this thread
So much has been happening lately, I'm happy I get a change to even read what everyone else is saying!
I go to school 5 days a week from 9-230 and DS is in daycare till 4. He's growing SO FAST! I still miss BD and he's not around much but I'm really trying to make do. My mission is to find a place of my own to live because staying with my parents is quickly becoming less and less of the correct choice. I can't work while I'm at school because DS's daycare is only open till 6 and the few ofpen after that are basically just "drop and go" places which I am less than fond of. I only have 4-5 months of school left before I get to work again. The trade school I'm at helps place you after you're done but its up to you to get/keep the job. I can't wait to work again.
Our fs got cut too Mylie. When I called to ask why apparently the FS aren't apart of the new gov bill and EVERYONE is losing a chunk of benefits.
OH!!! I got approved for TAFN! I'm so happy that I'll be able to catch up on DS's daycare fees and put more than a 1/4 tank of gas in my car. I use about 25$ of gas just to and from school and have been making do with just 15 or so.
I hope everyone is doing well & that all you lovely ladies are having an okay weekendpost #956 of 14059/22/13 at 10:50amThread Starterpost #957 of 14059/22/13 at 11:40ampost #958 of 14059/22/13 at 12:12pmpost #959 of 14059/22/13 at 1:28pmpost #960 of 14059/22/13 at 4:07pmThread Starter
Just emailed my mom for more $$ yet again....I should just have her send the monthly rent directly to my landlord. i should have her name on the lease. This is getting silly every month... Asking for rent $$ then extra money for stuff mediciad wont cover. I just want to scream. And its obvious we are moving into 'holiday' season and I have no way to prepare for it.
I really need to sub every day but that wiill put me over the income limit for DES... So I'm trying for 3 1/2 days a week which will just keep me under the cut off , a few $$ in my pocket and myabe i can pay down a few bills.
