I had a ultrasound last wednesday at 5w5d and we saw the baby with a heartbeat but we couldn't get a BPM on the baby since it was so small but the Dr did comment that the heart looked slow. This of course freaked me out because we had a 15 week loss between our boys who also had a slow heart early on and although she caught up she ended up having cyctic hygroma and fetal hydrops that wasn't found till 15 weeks. We schedule a amnio but when we went for it she was gone and they scheduled me for a D&E. That was a traumatic time for me so now when the Dr mentioned slow heart I am totally freaked out. I am trying to tell myself that it was just slow because it was so early and probably just started. They scheduled me for another U/S in 2 weeks but I calle dthem the net day and said I couldn't wait that long so I have a appt. this monday. I am sure they think I am crazy but I need to know if this one looks normal for my own piece of mind. I want this baby so much and I hope it was just the stupid OB opening her stupid mouth and saying something she shouldn't have. This OB is another DR in the office that I haven't seen before. She doesn't have very good bedside manner and I am planning on moving to my midwife for a home birth once we get past 12 weeks and the NT scan. It can't come fast enough. Anyone have any good stories about early slow heart rate for me?
I also do not have experience with this, as my clinic will not even do an ultrasound more than a couple days before 7 weeks (for this reason, I believe). I think it's ridiculous that there is even a comment on heart rate that early. Most people don't even see it until at least a week later. Also, if the doc couldn't get a reading, how could she even comment on whether it was slow. Doctors piss me off sometimes.

Quote:Agreed. Wouldn't you think if they had trouble seeing it that early, that they could be missing beats, causing it to appear slow? I have read so many stories of early ultrasounds where the doctor has worried the parents for absolutely no reason, other than it being way too early to tell anything. It's crazy.Originally Posted by deborahbgkelly

I hope tomorrow brings some relief. I will be 6w 3d and hopefully the HB will be around 120 which is average for a 6-7 week fetus. I just need to know that this one is OK. You fall in love the minute you know they are there and I just want to hug and kiss him or her in september.

JenandJames- How did it go? AFM- I went into the clinic for some meds and a blood draw. The doc who did my transfer popped in and it was really nice. I told him he was right since he had said when we did the transfer "I think you're going to get pregnant today." I told him about our ultrasound and the heartbeat and he said "You have a champion in there!" Love him and I so needed that today.

Thank you. I know I am biased but I think they have especially nice blob-like qualities.

Hi ladies! I just had my first appointment yesterday with the same home birth midwife who I was with for my last child. We were with her for almost 2hrs!! Talk about not rushing the appointments lol. I'm not doing any ultrasounds until the 20 week so no cute pictures or heart beat numbers.
I have always had an early US but this time we decided against it. We are hoping at my 12 week appointment we can hear the heart beat on the Doppler.
Also found out that my due date was off a bit due to my short cycles she put me due on Aug 27th!!!! But I think I'll stay with you ladies verses switching to the aug ddc, I feel like I've already connected with some of you

I had another U/S on monday and the Dr seemed surprised the baby grew and the heartrate was 117. I was 6w3d then so I think that is on the low end of normal but seeing as its been a few days its probably over 120 now. The baby was measuring 6w3d. I really don't like that OB and won't be going back there. She literally spent more time telling me that I was exposed to HPV1 which is the cold sore virus then any thing that had to do with the baby. I asked about my blood work and she said it was fine. :/ I have made a appt with a new OB and he is the back up DR for my midwife so that is better. I only want 1st trimester care including the NT scan at 12 weeks and then I will be moving to my midwife for the rest of the pregnancy. At this point if there is anything wrong there is nothing I can do to stop it so I am trying not to worry about it. Pregnancy can be so stressful sometimes.
