Love this thread and reading about your news ladies. Me, well... I'm so terrified to go to the darn doc. I had an ultrasound (with the internal probe thingie) because Kaiser couldn't get it STRAIGHT and kept telling me I wasn't pregnant. I was barely 4 weeks then, so I only saw a little dot.
What week did you go to get the heartbeat ultrasound? I'm 6 weeks on Sunday and I'm dying to see that fluttering heartbeat on an U/S. When might be the soonest I could go?

I was 6w to the day and we were just barely able to make out a heartbeat on a transvaginal ultrasound. 5 days earlier there was nothing but a gestational sac. So don't worry that at 4 weeks you didn't see anything-that's way too early.post #208 of 6831/30/13 at 8:48amwow it is amazing to see all the ultrasounds pics in this post!!!

although i saw an OBGYN last week i only had a pee test to confirm my pregnancy.
my next appointment/check up is feb.21 and my first ultrasound (NT) & bloodwork is scheduled for March 19 (11 weeks to the day).
I am pretty bummed as I was hoping to see a midwife here instead of OBGYN.
Unfortunately I am moving back to USA in May (when my courses will be done) and no one will take me on as a midwife patient for 3 only months.
BUT i found midwife care in the USA and my 1st visit is scheduled for may 6th (when i am 18 weeks).
has anyone switched/transferred care providers mid-pregnancy before?

tilly - i would say six weeks is pretty early. you might see a heartbeat, or not, and it wouldn't really mean anything if you didn't because it's so early. by 7 weeks, i think you would have a much better chance of seeing it.... if you can wait the extra week. i know it's tough, especially with what you have been through with Kaiser!

I switched at about 6/7 months from an OBGYN at a hospital to a midwife at a birth center and they couldn't have been nicer about it. No problems at all.

Well, I actually saw a doctor for the first time on Friday! It was pretty much just a check in and discuss my plans. Since I'm hoping to transfer to midwife care at 12 weeks, my doctor won't be doing much, but I'm supposed to go get my prenatal bloodwork done this week and she's trying to get my first ultrasound booked. It will be around the 12 week mark so should be around February 22nd.
I had to laugh, my doc was actually pushing for me to get an early ultrasound for dating purposes. I just shook my head at her, said I chart and I know when I ovulated, so stop worrying about it. I wouldn't even tell her my LMP, just my ovulation date
I think she's learned not to bother arguing with me, she knows she'll never change my mind on anything!post #213 of 6831/30/13 at 12:10pm- MadelynMc

I know I'm still so upset about that super early ultrasound! They kept telling me my tests were negitive so I was asked to have the ultrasound then and there to confirm. ;(

Quote:Are you military or something? I don't understand why they didn't just have you wait a week and do another blood test. If you can switch doctor's offices, I would recommend doing that.

It's so great to read about everyone's results & plans! I'm kinda jealous of some of you that are already past the first u/s date... I'm still a week and a half away from my first on Feb 11. Trying to just enjoy these early weeks, but I am impatient!
Especially because with my first pregnancy we never found a heartbeat, so that will be a HUGE milestone for me and my DH! Tilly - I agree with the other ladies, 6 weeks is on the early side. My OB told me that half of women don't see a hb even at 6.5 weeks. I couldn't stand the waiting game, so I am just going in at 7wk. OB gave me the choice of coming in at 6 or 7 weeks - it will be harder to wait that extra week, but not as bad as sitting around & wondering if I went too early! By the way, I'll be 6 weeks on Sat, we're close geographically and in pregnancy dating!

I'm just doing the 20 wk scan. I am planning my second hb and having a look at the baby to determine if their are any glaringly major problems that would need immediate medical care is the goal. I am not anti hospital if their is a justified need. I just don't think a healthy mom and baby belong there out of routine. The 20wk scan is a logical use of technology that I think has distinct advantages especially when it comes to planning an out of hospital birth.Return HomeBack to Forum: September 2013 Due Date Club- Appointment Results/Updates
