Appointment Results/Updates - Page 20

Well, I got productive with my phone calls and emails and I actually got my NT scan this morning. The nurse said it all looks good.

I got a fingerprick test that will tell us with 80% certainty whether we are high or low risk for Downs, not sure what the test is called, just six drops of blood on a piece of paper...

We also got a roll of pictures at the end but none of them are very clear though I did get to see the tiny human instead of a blob!

HR was 169bpm.

I laughed when the tech said: "There's two arms." I guess I was glad to hear there weren't any more or less though I sort of had taken that for granted before the ultrasound.

Had my second prenatal appointment today. Our baby would not cooperate and stay still for a picture so we got a blurry picture. It sure has grown! I'm 12 weeks 3 days and it measured 13.1 to 13.4. My family tends to have 8-9 pound babies so slightly bigger than average. It was great to get reassurance that everything is going well.
I love seeing everyone's pictures!

Had my NT scan yesterday and it was great to see the little one!  And like others of you, babe is measuring a week bigger than my conception date would have me - just hoping my care providers won't want to change my due date since i am very clear on when i conceived.  Don't know if midwives are in the habit of doing that but i suspect hospital docs may be more inclined that way.  My risk result for Downs is 1/150, which i'm not concerned about, and i'm now wondering if i even want to bother with the 2nd trimester screening. We have no known family history of genetic issues and I feel pretty confident that everything is fine and there's something about inviting more risk assessment that's a little unnerving.  Thoughts on that?

I run into this with my doula clients (in Florida too) all the time.  The OBs would've been quicker to call for an NST at 40 weeks and induction has been on the table or actively pushed for many of my doula clients starting at 39 weeks.  2 days may not be a lot now, but if you run "late" it could be the difference between an induction and not.

Wow, scary!  Good info, aidenn, thanks!  All the more reason I want to have a homebirth!

Couldn't agree with this more! If you'll notice, most of you who are having all these early scans are being told your babies are measuring big. How can you ALL be haivng bigger babies? If they change your dates based on this information, it could mean the difference between being induced or not as you get to the end.

It's kind of scary, to me. As much as I'd like to see my baby now, I'm kind of glad we're waiting till 18-20 weeks.

When I had my 12 week scan they confirmed it measured exactly to the day the dates I'd told them, sometimes mums really do know best lol
post #387 of 646
My baby was measuring a full week ahead, but I luckily have one of those doctors who goes by my dates. He didn't change my due date 😊
post #388 of 646
The nurse practitioner I see has no desire to change my dates. She is really easy going it seems. I had to get a dating ultrasound because of a weird cycle coming off the pill, and supposedly the earlier one is more accurate than one at 12.5 weeks

Mine is three days ahead, but having thought about dates, it actually makes more sense than my original due date.

None of the practitioners I've seen have ever said anything about measuring ahead etc. They've all asked me about LMP and I tell them I know when I ovulated. They usually seem surprised that I know but they've all calculated my due date based on that info. I've gotten a range of dates from that, anywhere from 9/13 to 9/16 and that's fine with me. In my head it's "the second half of September".

In my experience, they usually don't mess with your due date unless there is at LEAST a week difference. Also, I've always been told U/S for dates and size after the 8-10 week mark generally isn't as accurate as earlier on.

As far as so many babies in our DDC measuring "big", keep in mind that all babies are probably averaged together to get the sizes for dates an US uses; so that includes babies who have mothers with unhealthy lifestyles as well.  I personally tend to think the majority of women who come to Mothering and the DDC's here, are of the more natural and healthy variety, so logic says their babies would typically measure "larger" than less healthy mothers who may have babies growing at a lesser rate.

At 13w4d-----I have never been more in love. For the first time today I heard my LittleBubu's heartbeat-163. I have honestly been floating on cloud9 today.joy.gif

Next appointment will be a month from now. I was told to drink 32oz of water. Excited....is this when they check if i'm having a little manstork-boy.gif or a little ladystork-girl.gif?

All my friends think it's a babygirl because of the heart rate. What do you think? stillheart.gif

Oh, I totally get that. Which is why it's kind of crazy. I'm very glad doctors don't tend to change dates unless there's at least a week's difference! Just one of those "horror stories" I've heard that makes me choose a midwife. ;) But I'm glad if it's not happening very often!

Had a MW appointment today, 11+1. Uterus had grown, but she wasn't able to get HB with the Doppler yet. Bummed (and the tiniest bit worried), but I have a retroverted uterus and I know it's sometimes tough even if you don't have a retroverted uterus at this gestation. I'll see her again in the next week or two to try again. Send good vibes!

Sending you positive vibes! I don't think it'll be anything to worry about, and I'm sure the next appointment will give you peace of mind.

Haurella, I bet everything is going to be fine smile.gif I'm in the same boat and that is what I've been telling myself. I'm 15 wks now and tonight I go back to my MW just to see if we can hear a heartbeat on her Doppler. Last time I was there I was 12 wks and we could not find it. I was really devastated at the time cause I had gotten my hopes up. I think hearing the heartbeat for the first time will really help me get attached to this little bean.

I went to my first midwife appt today at the birthcenter and it was pretty uneventful. Had blood drawn, pelvic exam, breast exam and doppler.

DH couldn't come but in hindsight he didn't miss much, we'd already heard the HB a couple of times, last time last week Friday at the perinatal place. Honestly, if all the appts are going to be like this I don't see the point of him coming, unless he wants to of course. We tend to be fairly independent in our pursuits so I'm fine with him not coming.

haurelia, hang in there!

Ugh. I hear ya.

My appointment would have been utterly pointless in exception to hearing lil beans' heartbeat! Yay! Such a reassurance.

They wanted to give me a pap smear. I asked to skip it but she still used a speculum and checked me out. This will now be the 3rd time this pregnancy I've had something inserted into my lady parts and really wonder why I made the appointments. I should have trusted my body and let it be till the 11wk scan. I'm going to sit here and worry because yet another time I exposed my baby to bacterial and the like. Ugh!

But I heard the heartbeat so I'm going up focus on that. Next week I'm being forced to a consult with a high risk pregnancy doc because of my thyroid issues and I'm sure (tho they haven't mentioned it specifically), my weight. I wish I could have done things differently this time around but my thyroid issues made me doubt my body and the faulty blood/urine tests claiming I wasn't pregnant. Ok vent over!

I heard the heartbeat yay!

Over here they don't do smears when you're pregnant. I wonder why it's different where you are.
