Just another option for you if you wanted to avoid the meds.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've had success with boric acid in the past, too, and a midwife did tell me it was safe during pregnancy a few months ago.  But the only place I have been able to find boric acid here in El Salvador sells it in unmarked bags (I think they get it bulk and then divvy it up), which makes me nervous about knowing that it is pharmaceutical grade since it is also sold as an insecticide (I couldn't get a convincing answer about the grade from the vendor).  I've already started with the fungicide the doctor gave me, so I think I'm just going to continue...but I'm promising myself that if the yeast comes back after this 3-day treatment, I won't do the medicine again but will stick to natural remedies even if that means just controlling but not curing it for the rest of the pregnancy.

The OB/GYN measured my fundus (23 cm), weighed me (176 lbs) and gave me a prescription for ketoconazole suppositories for my yeast infection.  She also listened to the heartbeat, but she had a hard time cause hyperactive boy was wiggling all over the place.

She said everything was going along fine except that I have gained too much weight since our last appt.  My non-pregnant weight fluctuates A LOT and I often range from 145-175 depending on the time of year and what's going on in my life.  I was on the light end of the spectrum when I got pregnant.  I was 153 at my first prenatal visit at 8 weeks, but I think I had already put on a few pounds.  Anyhoo...  I don't know how much to make of this.  I went up 8 lbs in one month and I know everything says you should gain a pound a month...but that seems very rigid to me, like other things like your build and height would impact how much you should gain. And I hear some women say they always gain a lot more than you "should" gain but are still able to lose it all and it's not a problem.  I'm inclined to not be too concerned, since I was at a pre-pregnancy weight somewhat lower than my average weight.  What am I supposed to do anyways??  Not gain anything this month to get back on track - that seems crazy.  I'm going to try to start making better nutritional choices - I've been pretty good, but I do also indulge a lot of cravings for pastries and ice cream.

As for the yeast, I was torn over weather to use the suppositories or not because I really didn't want to use any medication during my pregnancy.  But I am getting desperate - the itching is driving me crazy and none of my home treatments (vinegar, peroxide, garlic) have done anything more than calm it for one night so I decided to start using the suppositories.  They are Class C - but what I read said that topical ketoconazole doesn't cross into plasma, so I decided to let that reassure me.  It's a three-day treatment and I hope to God that they actually work and I don't just get a relapse of the yeast a few weeks later.  If that happens, I'm gonna be pissed.

Firstly-- sorry that your midwife is giving you a hard time. My OB didn't say one thing while I proceeded to gain 50 pounds from being at a normal-ish weight (5'5" at 170lbs). I lost a mere 20lbs. from birth and sad to say, lost maybe 15 more doing the best I could with calorie counting, weight watchers, tons of excercise etc. etc. And I was breastfeeding around the clock for 2 years! I didn't help with weight loss. I was later diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is SUPER common, so is hypothyroidism, after pregnancy. So not to say what happened with Serafina and CDsmom won't happen to you-- it can go many different ways depending on if you have autoimmune issues in your genetics. I have it running rampant in both sides of the family. greensad.gif

Secondly-- I found that your body does what it needs to if your listening. I may have over indulged on some things, but ate as healthy as I could for the majority of the pregnancy with DD#1. I was always hungry and a great appetite. Healthy foods like cheese, apples, salad. But I was eating tons of "whole grains" and professed foods too (good frozen stuff from Trader Joes but still!) so it makes me wonder.

Come this time around... I'm not loving any particular food and still am nauseated over many. I do seem to always be ok with fruit and some raw veggies but still have tons of problems with meat and fats. Much to my dismay, I started the pregnancy at my previous weight at 9 months with DD. Huuuuuge for me! I've lost weight so far and am staying to same for the most part. Curious what is going to happen in trimester 3. I do feel healthy for the most part but am very worried about gaining crazy weight again. I don't think it'll happen. Maybe this time it will melt away after birth.

Here would be my thinking if my midwife/ob gave me a hard time... I would just take it with a grain of salt and do the best I can. If I looked at my diet and it seemed ok 80% of the time that's all I can do. My body knows what it's doing and I'm going to trust it. Not look at numbers on a scale. Though I admit to shamefully scolding myself if I gain. It's really not a healthy or normal thing to do!

And about the YI: I am doing monistat and hydrogen peroxide rinses. I have bacterial vaginosis and a yeast infection and feel like the antibiotic prescribed will make it worse.

My holistic doc prescribed yeast arrest which I read is NOT approved for use during pregnancy. One of the ingredients is boric acid too. *sigh* I'm very confused as to what to do so I'm going the safest route first.
