At home the babies eat a lot of cottage cheese or yogurt with frozen berries mixed in. Or toast with various spreads - cream cheese, nut butters, goat cheese. And then otherwise we feed them leftovers for snacks - oatmeal balls, steamed veggies, chicken cubes, pancakes, fritters. They tend to eat 4 or 5 small meals rather than 3 big meals plus snacks, so often we just treat each feeding like a meal. They love tortillas with cream cheese and shaved raw broccoli florets and finely grated carrots rolled up and sliced like sushi. Meatballs make great snacks.

I find at this age if we feed them protein at every snack we have far less behavior issues. And they are less likely to require feeding every 5 minutes.

None of the babies here eat much when they are teething.

Oh, and they all love to eat with a bowl and spoon. They are more likely to eat their food if served this way. Oren and Claire are decently skilled at eating with their utensils, but not Chloe. Mostly they just play with them though.

Ha ha! I just needed to share - the other day Oren was nursing, popped off and started pointing to and babbling about my nipple. I said, "Yeah, that's my nipple." He looked at me, cocked his head, thought for a moment, and said "APPLE!" And now all nipples are always apples.

My other favourite thing he says is "GOLLYGO!" Which means "here you go!" And also "give that to me!" And then yesterday he started calking Chloe and Claire Kolly-ko when he saw them in pictures.

It has been downright vomit Armageddon at my house this week. Last night in particular Bettie was sick. It was the saddest thing ever, because she just didn't understand what was going on. Every blanket, towel, and sheet in my house is dirty :/

So she quit throwing up around 4am. I have been nursing her and have only given her some blueberries and watermelon. When do you guys think something more solid would be safe?

If she's not asking for solids, I wouldn't bother for as long as possible... another 24 hours even.  If she is inconsolable about solids, I'd try a cracker or something bland and then wait an hour to see what happens.  If she's keeping the fruit down, she's probably fine, I would think.

She's not asking for anything. I have almost no experience with stomach bugs. We have only had one one years ago.

Ash, another 24 hours is a good idea.

Yeah, I just gave her a tiny piece of banana and she threw it up almost right away.

She has been nursing just a little, and has eaten a bit of a Pedialyte Popsicle. She hasn't peed in almost 24 hours :/

No urine output  in 6-8 hours isn't a good thing It's a sign of dehydration. I'd probably take in to be seen soon since no urine output in 24 hours.

Thank you. Her demeanor is ok for now, and she peed just a bit ago. As soon as DH came home I went to shower and he said he gave her 2 blueberries and she vomited right away :/ so I think that if we stick to just nursing and a bit of wAter from a straw she will be fine.

Poor sick babies... R is unwell, too. He did a huge vim before bathtime and then said no to nursing before bed. He just snuggled up to me and fell asleep. Unheard of.

Anyway, in case anyone is interested, I just saw that this CM homeschool bundle is $.99 in the kindle store:

Ash, I'm sorry Bettie is sick.

Soren has a hoarse, raspy breathing thing going on. Does he get sick every Saturday or does it just feel like it?

Sorry for all the sick babies.  We're all healthy over here, but really, if we get sick right now it would pretty much take the cake as the worst 2 weeks ever!  We're STILL here in AR waiting for them to fix the bus.  It was a complicated job to retrofit a new(used) engine and the mechanic here has never done this exact job before.  They're almost done and now we're waiting on 1 more part that they can't get until Monday.  The engine is together and runs now, but it won't shut off without forcing it within the engine.  Anyway, IF we leave on Monday it will be over 2 weeks of living in 320 sq ft, with 3 kids, 1 dog, and 9 puppies in a mechanics parking lot!  This sucks on so many levels, it's a very $$ rebuild, my dh can't work here and won't make any money for at least 3 weeks this month, the puppies are starting to get too big to be confined in their whelping box, and it's just plain boring!

Coralie is finally walking full time (wobbling) and her language is taking off.  Some days she says 2-3 new words.

Abra, that's no fun. I got stuck a few days in Idaho but at least it was summer. And we were missing all the kids and puppies. Yay for walking.

Yeah, I'm starting to think I'll be able to write a book about our adventures some day.  This one really is a story we will tell for the rest of our lives!

No walking here yet...

KJ is so, so sick. At this point I'm pretty sure it's the flu. I've never ever seen here even 1/10th as miserable as she is right now. She's waking up every 20-30 minutes sobbing and hysterical. She's drinking water and doesn't have a fever at least. This is the saddest thing in the world...
Abra, this will definitely be one of the memories you look back and smile at. I can understand your frustrations right now though. Feel free to stop by Indiana! I'll totally take those puppies off your hands. wink1.gif

I don't normally talk about work, but it was too crazy not to bring up last night! I work at the animal emergency clinic here in town. I started my shift off with a cat that swallowed a needle... That required surgery. Then we had a dog that got into a fight with it's house mate and needed it's eye removed! Then we had a dog that was hit by a car and shattered his knee... More surgery. Then a dog came in that had SWALLOWED A NEEDLE and needed surgery!!! Never has that happened twice in one night, ever!!!

The cat.

Before/After of the dog.

The dog.

I didn't get a picture of the shattered knee, darnit. It was honestly probably the craziest night I've ever had and it was awesome! Totally reestablished why I went into emergency.

Wow, Nicole! That's crazy. I was a vet tech once upon a time. I really enjoyed that.

My cat swallowed a hair tie a few years ago and we had to take her to the ER vet. She got a REALLY expensive enema and it came out. Haha.

That same cat pooed all over while we were placing her catheter... And her poo had a full rubber band in it. O.o Silly animals!!!
How the heck do you know your pet swallowed a needle?!? Do you see it happen? So strange!!!

I am so glad the emergency vet exists, but I hate going. I've had some sad emergency vet visits in my day. greensad.gif

Ash, so sorry about B! How's she feeling today?

Katie, that is awful! Have you given her anything for the pain? Did it help at all? When Jasper was really sick, I wore him a lot of the time. I'd sit with him on me when he finally slept. It seemed to help. Keep us updated.
