I had used a convertable britax with both my boys, but this time I have a hand-me-down (safe and unexpired) Graco 32.  I've always been against the bucket seat concept, but since now I have two older kids, we're doing alot of in and out of the car, errands, bus stops, etc, and as much as I love babywearing, I need the option to let the baby sleep uninterrupted, since she no doubt will not be home for most naps.

I did find this- a cushion for the carseat handle, and it makes lugging around the bucket a bit more tolerable

plus a stroller frame for the seat to snap into.

Oooh...I bet that would be really simple to DIY! ***adds it to never-ending to-sew list**

I'm still fighting whatever it is I have. I'm not sure if it's the flu, or just nasty virus, but while I was looking up things that might help, I kept coming across sites that said things like "preterm labor/birth" and "substantial (91%) increase in stillbirth" and other really horrible things, so now I'm trying *really* hard not to freak out, especially since my SIL lost her baby (Not stillbirth, but he was only 2 or 3 days old).  DF told me not to worry, because we're all going to be okay, and I'm trying really hard not to. It helps when baby moves, or kicks, but then I think, "Well, we're not in labor yet, there's still stillbirth." and then part of me is like, "There would surely be signs of something going wrong before that, closer to when you have the illness/fever, and since there's not, everything *is* going to be okay."

Now, I'm wondering if I should have just gotten the stupid flu shot, even though I know it doesn't really prevent you from getting the flu. greensad.gif

You can second guess your decision until you're blue in the face but it wont make you feel any better and you'd probably spend as much time second guessing that decision too. There are numerous studies linking the flu shot to m/c. Basically, you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Stupid question.. but what is this belly banding thing you ladies are talking about? Obviously it looks like it shrinks your belly, but how? Is there any other benefits to it besides appearance?

I've read it can speed healing from abdominal surgeries, too- maybe C-sections would really benefit? Also, possibly just helping muscles to do their work and get back to business?

For me, it felt SOOOOOOO good after birth.  You know that feeling after having a baby where it's like everything is just kinda floating around and could possibly fall out? LOL  The binder holds everything in.  It also helps bring the uterus back down to size faster (which I think also lessened my PP bleeding in turn), kinda like a constant PP uterine "massage" or sorts.  It always feels a little uncomfortable to me as soon as I take it off during the first week or two (like everything falls back out again).

I think there are some made specifically for c-sections that are nice and soft. It can help shield the scar from little bumps a bit.

I keep trying to post, but my phone is being wonky. My DD has had the flu for over a week now :-( she's never had it so its been rough. That's ehy I haven't been on.

I'm getting the Combi Coccoro. I have a Radian that I'll move my 4 year old to and we're thinkinga  Britax Parkway for the 6 year old. I hope they all fit in our car.

Seems like I have the flu too. Really miserable and depressed. Kids had it too but were not so dysfunctional though lots of fever. It lasted 5 days help. Just spoke to dr who said to try to keep fever below 101 with Tylenol. I can barely get out of bed house falling apart.

Long story: Per safety reccomendations, carseats are the one baby item we will not buy used. Been keeping an eye out for a good price on a Graco bucket seat (which is compatible with the used swing we bought). Found a great deal on a carseat and a matching stroller at the grocery store this morning, but they were out of the particular stroller print and they said they don't do rain checks. So, despite being exhausted by spending half the day buying groceries...I called some other Superstore locations to find one with the right stroller in stock. Got put on hold. Got hung up on. Finally got through and was assured that, while they wouldn't put it on hold for me, they did have the right color in stock and had several left. So I hauled myself up to the north end of town and....
Nope. Completely out of stock. Apparently the young gentleman I talked to wasn't listening to me when I told him the specific model and color.
So, I complained to the manager and she promised to order one for me and make sure I got it at the right price.
TLDR; Pissed off-looking pregnant ladies get very accommodating store managers.

Anyhow. That's that. We've got a bucket in a color I like (why are so many prints for baby things so ugly) and will actually have a matching stroller for it! Wasn't planning on fussing over matching colors or anything, but since I got it at a good price, I'm glad to have it. I love color and pretty things, so it's just a nice little extra. Plus DH says the handle is a comfortable height for him. He's never liked the height on strollers we've had in the past.

My DD1 got really sick with the flu this season, too, and she's never gets respiratory stuff so it was really surprising.

Ugh mama.  So sorry.  Hope you start feeling better soon!!!

Oh my goodness, that would TICK me off too!!!!  How frustrating.

I agree some of the prints for babies are strangely ugly.  And intense!  Some of the carseat prints hurt my eyes and I can't imagine a tiny baby sitting in there being surrounded by it on a regular basis.  Gives me a headache just thinking about it!!!!

I enjoy browsing the colors/patterns too, though.  Our stroller is a Phil & Ted's Explorer which is just solid black and green, but still surprisingly difficult to find a match too.

I agree with 1babysmom - after DS2 it actually hurt to stand up from that "empty belly" feeling. The binder helped a lot with the pain and with supporting my back until things went back into place. I'm using it this time too in order to try to fix my diastasis.  Also, I think it helps with loose skin. People wear really tight bandages or binders after having liposuction to help with loose skin, so I figure maybe it could help after pregnancy.

I have a midwife appt this week and I'm not looking forward to it. I'll have the kids with me this time and the last 2 times I've waited an hour to see her for 5-10 minute appt. The kids will not behave that long, they really stir crazy.

Wow I'm surprised you have to wait that long for such a short visit!  Is it a CNM or a CPM?  Just curious.  I have two CPMs and every appointment is about an hour or more and I barely have to wait usually.  But they are home birth midwives primarily and I think they make sure not to take on too many clients at once.  I would expect things to be different with a CNM working out of a OB/GYN's office though.

I'm going to have to look into that belly bandage thing.  This is my first pregnancy but I can imagine how uncomfortable it must be afterwards when everything is going back to normal.  I guess I hadn't thought about it until I was reading here.

To those of you who have the flu I hope you feel better soon!  I'm probably jinxing myself but somehow I've managed to stay healthy so far this flu season.  I wash my hands a ton.  Maybe too much.

Anyone ever been called for Grand Jury service while in the later stages of pregnancy?  I'm 27 weeks this week and I have to report on Thursday.  Really hoping they will let me go when they see I'm pregnant.  I don't mind going but I'm sure they won't let me take breaks to go eat or use the bathroom and I have to do both of those constantly.  Can I even have a water bottle with me?  My co-workers think they just won't pick me.  Really hoping that's the case.

Yes, its a CNM working out of a OB's office. The nurse comes in and does everything basically and then my midwife comes in and listens to the heartbeat, and thats it. Its really a waste of my time. Then starting this week she wants to start seeing me every 2 weeks. No way. That is not happening. I'm having no problems and just can't do that with the kids, getting my son to school, etc.  When I had my homebirth midwife it was so, so, so much better. Our appts were awesome and informative and actually fun. I looked forward to them. She would actually feel my belly, guess size by feeling, tell me what parts were where, talk about my personal life. I miss that.

Aw I'm sorry your prenatal care isn't as pleasant this time around.  That's one of the main reasons I love the home birth route.  Even my husband looks forward to our appointments which is really strange for him.  He usually hates running errands or appointments or anything like that.  It's nice to have time to go over all our questions/ concerns, find out where the baby is etc.  It's so different than when I went to an OB for our first pregnancy.  Although we only had a few appointments because we lost the baby at 3 months it was such a different experience with them.  Very rushed and I felt like "the 2:00pm appointment" rather than a person, you know what I mean?  Even when my OB told us the bad news she showed no real emotion towards me just an "I'm sorry" and "here's what to do next" while I'm crying and trying to process everything.  With my midwives they are friendly, offer me tea and ask about my personal life.  They even like to hug us when we leave which is always a little awkward for me because I'm not a big hugger but I appreciate the gesture.  I hope I can use them again for my next pregnancy or at least another home birth midwife who is similar.  Oh and I'm going to have to start coming every two weeks too although I forget at the moment when that starts.  And I have to drive almost an hour to see them but its worth it at least.  I couldn't imagine having to drag kids to an OB's office every two weeks for something like that.

Huh, I may have to look into a belly binder!

I ordered a K'Tan wrap for Calliope this week. I like how hands free Moby's and other wraps are, but absolutely suck at the wrapping, so hopefully this will be a good compromise! I wanted to get the Boba 3G, but with her being so little during the spring/summer, I want something a little more "breathable" with our hot summers.

Alaksanmomma: I have a K'Tan and I like it for infants. The only thing I haven't figured out is why it covers the babies face. Maybe I needed to wear the baby tighter or something, but I was using a hair clip to keep the side "wall" back. This time around I am going to see if there is another way, or if I was just doing it wrong.

I don't know what is going on with my kids! They have had head congestion and a random cough for the last three weeks. Then oldest DD ran a fever from Sunday afternoon until last night. It seems to be gone today so far, but she still looks sick. Granted, she runs a fever with EVERYTHING she gets (I think because she was formula fed... my theory), but wth? I thought maybe the flu, but that seemed too quick for the fever. Could she just have gotten another cold on top of the one that never fully went away? I had decided that if the other two kids don't get "it" then I would take her in to have her urine checked (she is always getting UTI's) and her ears checked, just because she has had so much congestion lately. I mean, if it was/is the flu, the odds are good the other kids would get it too, right? Ahhh! I'm not totally into herbs and natural healing and all that, but I am willing to try anything at this point to get rid of these colds and whatever else has been lingering all month.

We registered for a K'Tan also. Glad to know people like it. We were also given a wrap and baby treker. We shall see which one LO likes best, I guess.

At the lab for three hour test thus morning. The Dr office messed up the orders so we got off to a late start. Sigh.
