WIC petition

Hello,

New to the board, so forgive me if this is not the right place to circulate this petition.

I started a petition on the White House page to add organic foods to the choices available on the WIC program.

Here is the link:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/change-special-supplemental-nutrition-program-women-infants-and-children-wic-include-healthier/QzWP52Rb

It has a lowly 36 signatures so far and will not become searchable until it reaches 150. It requires 25,000 to get an official response.

Although my son is grown, I am passionate about access to healthy nutritious foods for everyone and I think organic foods for pregnant or lactating moms as well as babies and young children is a step in the right direction.

Please sign and share, share, share!

Thank you,

Eva

I agree, thankyou!!!

I went off wic because i cant stand feeding my kids non organic/ and /or gmo cereals. Not to mention all the eggs from chickens in torturous conditions and the crap inside them. I do have  more  money for food though, so now i can afford it.(having to look seriously into gluten free food) Its such a relief. I know wic means well,...but....,

....not to mention the peanut butter that is full of hydrongated oils and high fructose con syrup. I always  got the brand that was just peanuts, or with healthy oils,  this was possible when wic made the new rule-any brand  18ounces. Then all the good brands changed to 16ounces.....

Not to mention the fight those supermarkets give you to get  basic  fruit and vegetables.

And the crappy juices full of sugar...

In Oregon, it's still 16-18 ounces and I have been able to get things like Simply Jif (or grind our own pb at the co-op). They give nursing moms $10/month produce vouchers that can be used for any produce, including organic. The milk isn't organic, but we are able to get soy or goat's milk (we get goat). The cereal selection is mainstream, but it's free cereal, so I'm not complaining.

I would love them to add more organic choices, so long as the cost is restricted to what it is currently or what comparable mainstream brands are. I don't think that they should increase program costs by paying out $2/jar more for peanut butter or twice as much for eggs. Keeping costs down is what enables them to serve more people.

I found that products not on the wic list, were not necessarily more expensive. ie. it didnt seem like cost was a factor.

Well, so far the petition has only 135 signatures. I had no idea how hard it is to get people behind something. :-(

Even if it's pretty important.

15 more signatures will make it searchable. If anyone can add their name - it would be awesome - if you have other social networks - please spread the word!

And thank you!
