Shared Room and bedtime

Thread Starter

We just transitioned our 20 month old into her a shared room with her almost four year old brother. Fun times

-She moved out of the crib because she would sense she was being put down in it asleep, but could be put down on a mattress on the floor.

-Husband can rock her to sleep well, but she wakes up and fusses, flailes for him when he tries to lie her down, both when he lies down with her too or not.

-She can be rocked back down, repeat above, or if you let her be, runs around all manic

-If you finally get her down, brother forgets to be quiet at his bed time and wakes her up. repeat

-If everything works out somehow, she still wakes in the middle of the night and runs into our bed. Easiest one to fix if we could just get out of our warm bed and snuggle her back up in hers.

-Husband is trying to do all the bedtime (he is bedtime man anyways) because I am evening sick with #3 right now. However most nights one of them ends up tucked in with me to fall asleep.

He asked me to ask for help. Ideas.

How do you make a shared room work at bedtime?

How long have you been trying it? My whole family started sharing a bedroom when DD was born, and the first week was hell. My son woke up every time the baby did. After a bit, though, he started sleeping through he noises. I think he just got used to it. So...give it some time? Also, is it possible to make a game out of being sneaky (for your son)?

Good luck! Bedtime is tough.
