Waking Up To Pee Several Times a Night? « Back to Group Discussions

Please tell me I'm not alone here. I'm only 7 and a half weeks, but have been waking up to pee at least twice a night (often three) since three or four weeks. During the day it's not as bad. I know it's only going to get worse from here, so I'm a little nervous, although it is of course worth it. Looks like I can say goodbye to a full nights sleep for a LONG time!

Me too! And it only gets worse lol I think I was up almost every hour towards the end of my pregnancy with DD.

I was also disappointed to see my sleep quality diminish so quickly.  :(  I like sleeping.  I really wish I could convince my DH to sleep in the guest bed.

So far I've been lucky, I only have to pee when I get woken up by something else (DS, the dog, DH coughing, me coughing, etc.).

Yes, this is so true.  It used to drive me crazy when people would say, "get your sleep now!" because my sleep was such crap.  I'd lie there, trying to adjust the pillows to get comfy, then I'd realize I had to pee, then I'd go back to bed, try to get comfy, repeat every half hour or so.  I rested so much better with a newborn!

As much as I hate that you ladies aren't sleeping well, I'm glad I'm not alone. I'm also glad it's not every hour yet!

I'm also up 2 or 3 times a night, but yeah, the last trimester, especially last 6-8 weeks was RIDICULOUS. I don't know if I slept ever. I felt like the newborn period was a total slumber party! Ha!

I do recall second trimester being fairly good sleep-wise though. Maybe I'm romanticizing it!

I am up a couple times a night. I homeschool my 2 ŁO right now. But I fantasize about poppin out this baby on the 19th of August (my edd and coincidentally when school starts!) and putting my kids on a bus so I can nap all day long with my newborn.

I'm up once a night, usually, but sometimes that's to throw up, too. Not loving this part! I'm hoping it will all be easier for all of us in a few weeks! Come on, 2nd trimester!!

It is a sure sign of being pregnant with me....when not pregnant I value my sleep and am NOT getting up to pee. When pregnant it is multiple times per night :(

I am too! Horrible. And I dont just wake up slowly and realize I need to go. I wake up with a FULL bladder, and feel like I might almost pee the bed. It's one of those super long pees. lol I know it has something to do with increased blood flow. I'm also super thirsty all the time too. Lose lose!

Yup, this is my 4th pregnancy and i don't remember ever having to pee this much in the first tri.  Ridiculous. I try to limit how much I drink about 2 hours before going to bed and when I do pee, I try to make sure that I am fully empty.  That may seem weird, but especially in the middle of the night when I am about to wet the bed (LOL) I have to lean forward to help push it out. Does anyone else feel like they have to do that? It's not every time mostly in the middle of the night.

I have to drink right up until I go to bed as I am still actively nursing my 11 month old at night.  Even with him nursing as much as he does (and therefore most of the water going into milk) I still have to wake totally up to use the bathroom at least once a night.  But it was the same when I was pregnant with him.  Yay for super efficient kidneys!

My last MW suggested that if your waking up often it usually means you may find eating a little protein helps you sleep.  It's usually a blood sugar, hormone thing.  I find if I eat a hard boiled egg I only wake up once, otherwise its 2-3 times.

Good tip! Thanks. Hard-boiled eggs are easy enough to have on hand. Plus even not for just pee slowing; they help my middle of the night hunger/ nausea beast.

Goodness, I hope I come out of my egg-aversion phase soon, then! I don't think I've eaten an egg in a month. :-(

I was peeing 4 times a night a couple of weeks after I discovered I was pregnant.  My OB does a mandatory urine culture first visit and it turned out I had an entercoccus infection.  Antibiotics cleared it up and now I only get up 2x a night.  It wasn't a bad infection, just one that made my bladder feel fuller but didn't hurt when I went pee.  Something to consider.

I am totally going to try this.  It isn't the peeing, I just seem to wake up at, I don't know, 4 o'clock and have a hard time getting back to sleep.  I don't feel hungry per se, but maybe this will do the trick!
