My name is Ruth. I'm 32 and was born in Iowa. I moved to Milwaukee when I was 18 to be a nanny for my cousins. I fell in love with Milwaukee and lived there for 14 years. My daughter, Maya will be 6 on January 12. I was a single mother, working full-time at a daycare, until Maya and I moved to Chicagoland to live with my husband, Robert, in June.
Rob and I met last February at a mutual friends house. We started chatting and it just went from there! It's amazing how easy and enjoyable our relationship has been so far. I was NOT looking to meet anyone. I figured I'd be a single mother forever, and I was fine with that. I really wanted more children, but not if I was going to be alone raising them. Now I'm not working (outside of the home) and won't until our youngest child starts school, at least.
I completed about a year and a half of college, but I still don't know what I want a degree in. I'm interested in psychology; especially between mother and child. I'm also very interested in "natural" health. I am constantly learning more about healthy eating, herbal medicine, and homeopathy. Maya goes to a Waldorf school and we love it! It suits her personality very well. I hope our future children will be able to attend a Waldorf school, as well.
It's been wonderful to see my daughter and husband form a tight bond and I'm very excited to watch the process from birth with our son! It's also really cool to experience co-parenting after doing alone for so long. Sometimes it's a little hard to bite my tongue when he doesn't handle something the way I would, but generally it's extremely helpful to have another adult to back me up!
I had a natural birth in a hospital with Maya out of pure luck. We are planning a home birth for this baby and are really looking forward to it!
That's all I can think of for now. I'll post a couple wedding pictures. They're the most recent I have!
We got married on August 24, 2012. This was at the reception at a nature preserve.
Maya and her BFF (who happens to be my BFFs daughter) were exchanging vows after the wedding. They had matching necklaces. It was the sweetest thing! I wish I had a video of it.
Maya and me, waiting for the judge to be ready (we got married at the courthouse).
This is the only picture of the 3 of us from the wedding. Maya didn't really want her picture taken at the moment, but someone snuck one anyway.
