My contractions picked back up last night and I called our midwife around 12:35, after about 2 hours of interrupted sleep. We made it to her homey birth clinic by about 1:20, and she found I was 7cm with a bulging water bag. I labored alone with my husband in the dim bedroom until I started to shake a bit. I had a thought that wasn't this something that happened in transition--but it couldn't possibly be time! With the very next contraction I felt the urge to push! I did, and my water broke and a bit gushed out (2:29pm they tell me).
They handed me the baby up through my legs and I sort of assumed it was another boy. When I checked after hearing one of the assistants say "her" I was very surprised to learn I had just pushed out a baby girl! She was born at 2:59 am on January 6th. This morning she weighed 7lbs 6oz and measured 20 1/2 in long. She is precious though sleepy right now, So I am going to cuddle her some more.

Congratulations, mama! Sounds like a wonderful birth!
