'here we are' you will get to a place where you will find the ob/midwife that you have chosen to be on your side and supportive of you or you can move on to one that is a better fit.   i hope that you find that you trust their care.  go easy on yourself as you figure out what you think is most helpful to you now.  this is a positive journey for you and you will feel confident soon.

I think you should definitely speak up if you want more information or want to make informed consent. I know I had a similar feeling about my midwife using a doppler during my last pregnancy. I was at an appointment and she yanked it out and used it without even seeing if I was OK with it. That really bothered me. She did other things later that made me decide to drop her.

I feel the same way.  We borrowed a doppler from a friend because I was having BAD anxiety over losing this baby too.  I use it once a week for a few minutes, just to calm my nerves.  I'll stop once I regularly feel movement! :)

As for pelvic exams, I've never had one in early pregnancy.  I decline cervical checks in later pregnancy as well...I personally don't feel that they're necessary!

I wouldn't worry about being a "difficult" patient.  They understand that this is all new to you and that you want the best for your baby!  Just voice your concerns!

I had a pap done during my first pregnancy because it had been 7yrs since I had had one done but I didn't have one during my second pregnancy and won't during this one. I don't have a problem with it but it hasen't been warrented during these last 2 pregnancies.

I do decline internal exams until I am full term. During week 40 though, I get very curious to see what, if anything is going on in there lol
