Any home birthing mamas? - Page 2

I am planning another home VBAC. DS was a planned home birth turned high-intervention hospital transfer that ended in a c-section. DD was a peaceful water birth VBAC at home.  I carry my babies a bit longer than most (42 +1 and 43 weeks respectively) so not only do I have to fight for my VBAC right in a hospital, but I also have to fight the 'way past your due date' issue as well, so working with a HBAC-friendly (and experienced) midwife is important to us. We had a wonderful midwife that we plan to use again for this little one!

Flora I'm a 10 month mama as well - 42+2. I fibbed after transferring to the hospital and said I was a week late as they were already giving me enough grief (while I was pushing, mind) about using an unregistered midwife.

We are plannig our 6th homebirth if all goes well. My first 2 were a bit difficult with long transitions and 2 hour pushing stage for both (the second birth was long because of stuck shoulders) but other than that each birth has progressively gotten easier though i always go 41-42 weeks and still labor several hours. Hoping this one goes the same. I have been blessed!

I am also one of those fighting as I go way overdue with babies. Always adds so much stress at the end ((hugs)) and cheers to luck this time!

Glad to see another mom expecting her 6th!

I would like to homebirth. I had a super easy, non-invasive, vaginal birth at a hospital last time (with the best family practitioner the universe put in my path! thank you!!), due to insurance. I know I could do a homebirth but its all on the insurance company. There is a water birth friendly birth center close by that some of my friends recommend with a midwife-in-the-room friendly OB at the local hospital, just in case. I'm gonna go there for prenatal care while I sort out the insurance issues and see about a home water birth.

I do worry about being completely distracted at home though. I would be worried that all the animals hadn't been fed, or the dishes would need washing or that my daughter was stressed. But I have tome to change my mind on these matters.

We are hoping for a homebirth as well. Did a lot of research 2 years ago when we first started TTC but have a lot of catching up to do now that the moment is finally here.

My son was born in my kitchen! I wanted a water birth but strangely found the birthing tub to be irritating in labor. I also pushed for 3 hours...I hope it's not so long this time.

I too am planning a home birth (water births sound so wonderful so I am considering this option as well). This will be my first:) It looks like I'm not the only newbie which is really nice and it is equally nice that there are a lot of experienced home birthing moms here as well. Hope to gather knowledge and insight from you ladies and look forward to sharing this journey with all of you.

This will be 4th baby but 5th child as our oldest is adopted. The first 2 were hospital births with a midwife, my last was an awesome home waterbirth and this little one is due the same week as my youngest's birthday 2 years later. We are moving across the country in March so I will need to find a midwife when we get there. I have tricare and will likely go to the base Dr for the ultrasound and then just not go back. We will have to pay for the birth out of pocket which stinks but it is so worth it!

Breachaplin, I'm also paying out of pocket since I have state care but your right it is so worth it. I hope that I might get on a different plan before the baby is born so maybe ill get lucky and save just a bit at the end. Where are you moving to?

My DD was a hospital birth due to severe preeclampsia.  My DS was a very successful & wonderfully healing homebirth. I'm definitely planning another!!!!

letnilynne, We are moving from Iowa to California so while I will have many more options for midwives there it is much more expensive and will likely be over 4 grand out of pocket. I am so glad that we are selling our house here and will have enough in savings to cover it. I really hate that if I went to the hospital, it all would be covered by our insurance but because I want to stay home, I have to pay for it myself.

What part of California are you moving to? I live in the Bay Area.

With our daughter's home birth our insurance said they would pay up to $5,000 so when the time came to submit our home birth claim they only sent us a check for $1,600. My husband submitted an appeal with the insurance company saying that if I had to have a c-section that they would have paid everything and we saved them lots of money by having a home birth but they won't even pay $4,500 for our home birth! A couple weeks later we received another check in the mail for over $6,000! We kept what we paid the midwife and gave her the extra.

I also found I didn't like being in the tub for pushing. It was nice earlier on though,

Yes, it was wonderful for the actual labor pains.  So very soothing.   But when I tried to push in there I just found myself getting irritated by the presence of water and had to get out.  Wasn't meant to be for me that time, but maybe next time will be different.

Planning UC homebirth again. I am also someone who cooks my babies extra well 42-44 weeks for all of them, so I am used to it. I didn't even feel late the last time when I had my child at 42 weeks. I was expecting maybe another week so I was pretty calm about it. I am guessing I may actually be delivering in October then. Last labor was great and shorter than usual for me so I am hoping for that again. The only thing that is sucking for me right now is my boobs are sore and nursing my toddler is getting painful. I'm trying to get her to be more gentle than she has tended to be, and trying to calm her down with the crazy twiddling. And oh, I got a birth pool last time but didn't end up using it because my labor went quicker than I thought it would, but I realized that really I like the hot water from the shower head on the small of my back, so I think I will stick with that this time around.

I had a homebirth with my DS.   He was also a 42-weeker.   The push to get babies out as soon as their EDD passes is one of my pet peeves and I love seeing so many patient mamas on here willing to give their LOs the time they need!  I had an exhausting 3-day labor, with over four hours of pushing, so I am super thankful that we went the homebirth route; one of my sisters was not so lucky and was forced into a c-section after just 10 hours of labor for "failure to progress".  My long slow push period, while pretty frustrating at the time, paid off, because I didn't have any tearing and very little bleeding.  I will definitely be having another homebirth although finding a midwife here in rural NH is a little more challenging than it was in Philadelphia, where my son was born.  I am hoping for a quicker labor but now that I've been through it once, but I think I'll be more patient this time if it does drag out again.

Zensven-  I have a nursing toddler too and the latch-on is getting extremely uncomfortable.  I keep saying, "please be gentle!" and my poor DS replies, "me AM being gentle!"  He is less enthusiastic about a younger sibling now that he sees it affecting his "nursies",  I wonder how he'll feel when the milk starts to dry up...
