Question about BBT

Hi Ladies,

My husband and I have been TTC for # 2 since May 2012. So here is my question. Is BBT always right when you take your temperature? I only ask this because I am a little bit confused.

For the past 4 cycles I've really have been studying the signs of my body and when I am ovulating. I do not ovulate regularly so I have to see other ways as to when my body gives me hints as to when I am ovulating. I used to know by CM, however the last 2 cycles hasn't been coming out. The other way I have noticed is my sex drive. It increases a lot! and I have noticed in the last 4 cycles that 2 weeks after my sexual drive has increased I got my period.

So this increase happened from Dec 28-Jan 1. Which I had sex during that time. The last couple of days I have had tender breasts, lower back aches and cramping off and on for the last 2 days. So I thought a couple more days my 2ww will be over and I can test.

Well this morning I thought let me just take my BBT cause I want to see if I could be pregnant. When I checked this morning, it was pretty low. So I was disappointed and sad. Has anyone out there checked there temp with it low and still been pregnant?

Just wanting some hope. Maybe start 2013 with some great news for me and my husband.

I don't think taking your temperature once randomly is a good indicator of much.  BBT charting works best when you do it every day of your cycle at the same time so that you can see a pattern from month to month and a step-up that shows ovulation.  I also don't think BBT is a great indicator of pregnancy all the time.  Some women who are pregnant see a triphasic pattern, but some don't.  Sometimes your temp will have dip after ovulation and then it will go back up.  Some women even have an implantation dip, a low temperature on the day of implantation.  So without having your whole cycle charted, it would be hard to say.  I would definitely not count yourself out yet!  It sounds like you have strong fertile signs that you followed and that you could still have a good chance of being pregnant.  Don't let one low temp make you sad.  Good luck!

Hi Pokey,

Thank you for your response. Here is a little update on whats been going on with me the last couple of days. Two days ago I got a lot of CM come out. So yesterday morning I decided to take a pregnancy test and of course it was BFN. Then yesterday afternoon I got somewhat of a period. So far since then, it has only been brown when I wipe and just a few spots. Here is the thing that is throwing me off though...my lower back is killing me. I can't stand for long because it hurts so much. I never get lower back pain during my period.

So I decided that I am going to see how my period goes and if it becomes a regular period and if it doesn't then I will take another test on Monday.
