Flu shot? - Page 2

I asked my Dr. about the flu shot today and he said it's not a bad idea, but he feels fine if I choose not to get it (which I won't). He also recommended a nasal spray called Xlear http://www.amazon.com/Xlear-Nasal-Spray-1-5-liquid/dp/B000M4W2E6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358469291&sr=8-1&keywords=xlear.

He said it's basically a sugar spray that coats the mucus membranes and helps prevent any germs/virus from taking hold, thus making it's way into your body.

For those considering the flu shot, here's a pretty compelling article.

It's enough to convince me, when I was already pretty sure I wasn't going to get it.

I feel like for some people, when they get the flu shot (or any vaccine) they feel that's all they need to do, and I find they're not as diligent, where as, for me, when I don't my flu shot, I am more diligent about  hand washing and paying attention to who is sick and who isn't.

No one in my house has gotten the flu shot (never do) and none of us have ever gotten the flu.  During C&F season me and the kiddos up our Vit D3, Vit C, and do Sambucus which is Elderberry and Echinacea.  We also slack off on going to extremely germy places like the children's museum, monkey joe's, mall play areas, ect...

None of us have eve gotten the flu shot and never will, for many reasons (a lot of the same ones that have already been stated.)  We wash hands and use essential oils both preventatively and pro-actively.  I am not afraid of the flu for myself or my family.

I got a terrible flu just after I found out I'm pregnant. It took me a week to get better but it went away.

I think your midwife is great if she told you she wouldn't get the vaccine. I wouldn't do it either and winter is really tough here.

In a teacher who never gets the shot and no way while pregnant. I come into contact with 800 kids a week and wash my hands like a maniac while at school. I stay hydrated eat healthy, get rest, etc. knock on wood I've never gotten the flu. I think the news media loves to hype the flu up every year. My hypochondriac family doc even said not to get it this year because it won't cover you from the strain that's going around.
