Banana, I'm sorry you feel so yucky. I hope you feel better soon.

I've definitely had some insomnia but nothing debilitating yet. One thing I've noticed this pregnancy that is different from last time is that I'm always chilled. Last time I was so hot all the time and DS has turned out to be a very hot baby/kid. I wonder if this kiddo is going to be more cold natured?

I was cold all the time last pregnancy (this one too), was so disappointed I never got my "pregnancy heat".  DS turned out to be a very hot baby, I had to wear him with an ice pack tucked between us in the summertime.

I am so sick. Flu or something of the sort plus all day nausea equals misery. greensad.gif My 2yo got a fever Friday and is still clingy and fussy but no other symptoms. 5yo has had high and mid range fever, headache, stomachache, body aches. So sad. And I've had horrible joint pain, cough, body aches... Thank goodness for Tylenol! I hate medicating but with it, I can cope. None for kids tho. Hoping it runs it's course quickly. :/

Geeze, lots of sickies today. I hope you all feel better soon! I don't know about where you all are, but the flu is out of control around here.

That brings me to my next subject: after all this waiting, the day is finally here! I have my first doctor appt today. I was so nervous last night I could hardly sleep (and when I did sleep, I dreamt that they did an u/s and found a mass that they suspected to be ovarian cancer. Ug.). So... Wish me luck!

But the tie-in to the flu is that I'm sure that the Ob is going to "encourage" me to get the flu shot. I'd really like to avoid things like that while pregnant (medications in general) and especially during the first trimester, but the flu is so bad around here this year that now I'm not sure what to do. Have you all gotten a flu shot? Will you get one while pregnant?

The flu has hit at several hospitals here. I've heard it's a nasty one. Hopefully you all that are sick feel better soon!

I won't have the flu shot and hopefully I can avoid catching it! I managed to not get sick my entire pregnancy with DD until about 2 weeks before she was born when I got a cold. The H1N1 was going around at the time and I was a bit freaked out but I didn't get a flu shot then either.

I've never had a flu shot.  Won't start now.  :)

I asked my OB about the flu shot and I was surprised to hear him advise against it.  He said that the shot only protects  against one of the three bad strains going around right now so there would be a 2 in 3 chance of getting a strain of flu even with the shot.  He also feels that, while technically safe for pregnant women, exposing yourself to the crud they put in the vaccines cancels out any benefit you would get from not coming down with that one strain of flu.  So I am just maxing out all other preventative measures :-)

I got my whooping cough and flu shots in September, at my preconception check up. DH is a professor, and his students are germ machines, so he always gets vaccinated. He is on winter break so we are travelling lots and washing our hands even more frequently.

I'm sorry for everyone who is feeling under the weather.  At least with morning sickness I was always able to tell myself that it was a sign of a well-established pregnancy.

This pregnancy has been *much* easier so far than my last two.  Of course, with #1 I was in school and working and then working full time.  With #2 I had a toddler at home *and* was recovering from mono.  This time--- I can eat when I want, sleep when I want... I'm doing good.

My midwives didn't even bring it up (not a surprise) but I had already decided not to get the flu shot.  I have not had the actual flu once in my life and have known so few people who have--- just doesn't seem "worth" it to me.  Now, if I was in health care or education I might reevaluate that, but I'm not :)

Good Luck Melly!  That dream was rotten.  Relaxing vibes for a smooth appointment!

The only times I had the real flu was when I got the flu shot (as a new teacher in the public school system, and as a teenager when it was easier to just obey my mom.)

I've stopped dry heaving every 30 minutes, but I can barely keep my eyes open, so I'll take that as a symptom and not freak out about a m/c.  Luckily my 2 year old and 4 year old are happy to watch the tv (aka afternoon babysitter) until I can pull it together.

So sorry about all the sickness going around.  That really stinks.  I've never gotten the flu shot and just recently read about someone having a miscarriage after getting it. So, I'm very skeptical about putting anything in a pregnant women's body.

I've been thinking about it all weekend and decided to change OB's.  The hospital for my current OB is 1.5 hours away.  I cannot fathom being in labor for 1.5 hours in the car, plus driving a newborn home in a car that long.   Anyway, so I arranged an appt. with an OB my doula recommended and that hospital is only 25 minutes or less.  It was bad enough last time driving 40 minutes in labor.  Plus I was looking forward to the hospital that's closer because they have a tub to labor in compared to a shower at the farther away one.  So, looking forward to meeting the new guy.  I guess since he's foreign he's harder to understand, but is more easing going during a woman's labor and delivery.thumb.gif  Since I can't have a homebirth I will take what I can get.  My other OB told me at my last appt. that since I'm diabetic he wanted to induce at 39 weeks.  No way man, I already usually deliver during my 39th week anyway, but the only reason he wanted that is to make sure after telling me he wasn't worried, that I'd have a big baby. eyesroll.gif  I hope he is a huggy type of OB.  I like those the best.  Makes me feel like I'm being taken care of by a midwife.

I just had my first appointment. Had a quick u/s and everything looks good. My dates are spot on and my due date is exactly what Baby Center says it should be based on my LMP: 8/16. I'm relieved, but honestly, I'm not as relieved as I thought/hoped I would be. The Ob was nice, much nicer than I expected, but the tenor of everything is different this time around, since I am now AMA (cue ominous music). So maybe I'll feel more relieved after my first trimester screening (in 3 weeks). Or maybe I'm just a natural born worrier (that's more likely... Unfortunately smile.gif).

My kids are really doing well out of my pain. Monkey asked for ice cream and I seriously considered just giving him the carton and a spoon. Settled for filling the only clean bowl.

He suggested cheerios and marshmellows for lunch last week, and I made them.

Good for Monkey, for seizing an opportunity when he sees one!

Today was better than yesterday. I didn't get sick this morning as I did last morning. Phew! I even cleaned my family bathroom from top to bottom today without feeling like I was going to lose my lunch. And it was in sore need, I am embarrassed about the recent state of my upstairs toilet.

Tomorrow is our trip to the in- laws. I have just a few more items to pack and then it's off for a week of spoiling all my MILs plans by being (surprise!) pregnant. Oy vey. If you have a few moments, I could use some positive thoughts from about 8:30-9pm CST :/

FarmerCathy- Good luck with meeting the new doc! I hope you like him. 1.5 hours sounds beyond terrible to travel in labor! I have a rather huggy, caring doctor who spends all the time I need at my appointments. I really like that about him, especially since I don't have a good hospital midwife option here.

I'm so jealous of everyone who has had appts and u/s or have heard the hb. I'm only 8 weeks and don't see my midwife until jan 31st! I don't like being due at the end of the month! I feel like I'm slower than everyone else. :-P
post #38 of 86
AUvetmom, by July, those of us with early due dates will be hot and miserable. All the while, the moms due at the end of the month will be feeling good, full of energy and still fitting into their maternity clothes! :-P
post #39 of 86
Oh, coffeebean, if only I could believe that. :-) I expect we'll all be pretty dang miserable by the time July rolls around.

Sounds like a good decision.  Our nearest hospital is an hour away, actually there are about 5 hospitals an hour away (in different directions).   The drive to the hospital in labor was quite miserable and the drive back with the newborn was even more so.  Not looking forward to that part again this time, but we're not comfortable doing a homebirth as if we had to transfer it would be an ambulance + helicopter to get to hospital.  I hope your appt with the new OB goes well.
