We are going to hire a doula, too. I just think I'll be able to function better with someone with that kind of experience by my side and calming me (and my husband!) down. The doulas in my area with a lot of experience and education seem to range around $800 - $1500 for a couple of prenatal appointments, the birth, and some include postpartum (some include it for an extra fee).

It wasn't just you Cananny! Several people double or triple posted. I think it was a MDC issue!

We interviewed a doula today. I really liked her and felt that we clicked with her. My only concern is that she doesn't have experience with twins and is maybe a little naive about anxiety (I have anxiety on a regular basis, which is heightened by pregnancy and even moreso with twins).

We are interviewing another doula next week with experience with twins and anxiety, so I'm hopeful we'll click with her, but how important is it for a doula to have experience with twins? Are twin births that different from singletons from a doula's perspective?

As a doula with about 25 births under my belt, I've only assisted with one twin birth - mama made it to full term but baby A was transverse and not budging so after many hours of trying many different things, it ended up being a c/s.

There isn't much that would be "different" per se from a singleton birth, but being trained/experienced in positioning would be very helpful as well as c/s in general (just in case). Also being familiar with the special considerations for bfing etc.

I think exp/training with the anxiety would be the bigger of two "issues" as that is having her freak out on you when you need her to be your rock wont work well. That's just my 2 cents, FWIW. ;)
