Screen Time?

The thread on baby signing DVDs brought this to the forefront of my mind again. When DD was born, both DH and I were very adamant about no screen time at all. Over time we've become lax about watching sports etc with her around, and lately at nearly 1 yo DH has taken to showing her little videos on YouTube about the alphabet, etc. I know all of our friends do show their littles "educational" videos and its become increasingly harder to stay staunch in not showing her any screens. The AAP recommendation is very vague, does anyone have any links/ info specifically about the actual dangers of screen time?

Great thanks! We are renewed in our stance now.  So important to have resources to get DH on the same page...

I know what you mean. =)

You'll have years and years of kiddie media to endure, so no need to rush things. ;)

If her dad is sitting with her and interacting with her while they watch a few videos, I don't see the harm. If you have a second child when she's 3 or 4, and you let her watch a 1/2 hour of TV, the baby will probably be in the room and watching sometimes, right? I'd frame it as baby and daddy having a little fun together, so long as the screen time is limited.
