Contractions only while laying on back or sitting/reclining?

Hey all- 3rd pregnancy, 4th child, first natural birth and it's going to be an HBAC. 38+1 here, as of last week 2cm and 50% effaced. Since 37 weeks been having strong BXH CTX (like at one point every ins for 2 hours!) I was only getting them while sitting, I'd get up and go outside with the kiddos for a while and they'd go away.
Last night, DH and I DTD, nothing started up, so I went to sleep. I turned onto my back when I woke up this AM and began having very very strong contractions. They were about 4 mins apart and not letting up. I got up to walk around and the same thing happened- they went away. At last weeks appt, my m/w said the baby is still very high up and to do some squats. But I feel like he's kind of "stuck" between my pelvic bone and front of my stomach. IDK how to explain it. Anyone have this type of issue with CTX? Any malpositions? Thanks ladies! PPS- I have never gone into labor on my own- first baby induced at 38 weeks (I didn't know any better) and second birth was C-sec for breach/vertex twins at 37 weeks.

My labor was something like that w/ my second. Contractions would start at noon, get closer together, be 7 min. apart by bed time & quit. They would start up after lunch every day for a week like clockwork. They weren't debilitating but fairly strong & I have no doubt they were contributing something. Labor was only 7 hours long when it began in earnest. If you feel he's stuck though, by all means get it checked out for peace of mind.

If you feel malposition is an issue, I'd recommend doing the "Miles Circuit" http://www.milescircuit.com/  Good luck to you!

Thanks ladies! Had my m/w appointment just now and begged her to recheck me- still the same. She said sounded like typical BH CTX that stop when you change positions. She did feel me have a contraction as she was feeling his position, and also pushed gently on his head to make sure he was capable of dropping into position (he was). So feeling much more at ease now!! Thanks again for the help and advice.

My first baby was stuck the same way. She just wouldn't go down. I didn't know anything about positioning then but I know that squats didn't help at all then. I just read that doing something called a forward leaning inversion everyday can help but I don't know if that would help at ur gestation. My second child was stuck part of the way through labor so sometimes I wonder if having a tilted uterus works against me in the positioning dept. You can always try spinningbabies.com if you haven't checked them out already.
