Homeschooling would allow us to individualize the learning process and instill a love of learning rather then focusing on tests.
post #104 of 5941/16/13 at 4:28pmI home school because I know my little one will learn more from chasing butterflies, jumping in mud puddles, and working at his own personalized pace while we are traveling or in the comfort of our own home than he would if he were "institutionalized", sitting still for long periods in a desk after being assigned endless reading about things in a textbook he may or may not be interested in. I want him to keep his joy for learning rather than be squeezed into the tiny box called public school where all work at the same pace on the same things...and where it is being proposed that by high school, 75% of all of his reading is from an "informational text" like government training manuals for the federal reserve. I want him to be inspired by Fairy Tales and catch the values our family teaches rather than have him indoctrinated to be "politically correct". I have been a public school teacher, and my other children have experienced public, private and some home schooling. I simply want to give my son the best all around education he can get, and I believe that home schooling is our best option!
I'll be sharing the link on my FB wall, too!
post #105 of 5941/16/13 at 4:44pmWhy homeschool?
To preserve the innocence that children approach learning with - the curiosity and education that comes from play. We can cultivate their creative selves and expand their mind with tenderness so that learning remains fun and does not become just drone memorization to pass tests. When we homeschool we have time to connect with our children and allow space for them to blossom at their own pace in a more organic and instinctive way.

I homeschool because I love to learn along side my children. We enjoy reading together, doing crafts, exploring. I enjoy finding out what their interests are and then finding the resources to encourage them.
post #109 of 5941/16/13 at 5:09pmI want to homeschool my babies because I want to provide an education that I think they deserve, one that I don't think a public school can provide. Homeschooling helps them grow & learn at their own pace and allows them to invest in & follow their passions.

A lot of people assume we home school our daughter because we dislike public education, but this is not the case. We home school her because we feel have the ability to give her a tailored education to fit her learning style. I am a firm believer in nature as an inspiration and educator as well, and homeschooling allows for hours more outside time in nature than public school can provide. My children are lucky to live near other home schooled children that they can romp in the woods with too. Homeschooling isn't an easy path, but it is very enriching for us all.
post #111 of 5941/16/13 at 5:18pmI want to homeschool because I can provide my daughter with 1:1 student to teacher ratio. I can tailor the curriculum to her learning style and interests. We can take school where ever we are. Why not homeschool? :)
post #112 of 5941/16/13 at 5:27pmI want my children to love learning. I think the best way to do this is to give them the freedom to explore their own interests and integrate those into our daily curriculum. Public schools simply cannot provide this kind of individual attention. As a homeschooling mom, I feel I can give my children the best education, because I can tailor it to their interests and needs.
post #113 of 5941/16/13 at 5:35pmWe homeschool to experience learning with our children. I enjoy learning. I enjoy my children. It only seems natural to enjoy them together!
post #114 of 5941/16/13 at 5:36pmwe started homeschooling due to my son being bullied and kept on with the younger 2 because we enjoyed it so much.

post #116 of 5941/16/13 at 5:44pmI chose homeschooling because I love being around my kids. I chose Oak Meadow because I want to raise kind, responsible, thinking children who value creativity and wonder as much as more than I do.

We homeschool because we're not morning people. ;)
Okay, so we also like the flexibility of learning at home and everywhere we roam. We enjoy being able to take field trips as often as we like. And we enjoy being able to study topics of particular interest for as long as we like.

We homeschool to be together as a family and to have the freedom to do what is best for our children without reference to what other people think we should be doing. In one day we learn all the names of the birds in our oak tree, to write our names, and the number thirteen, and then we get to bake cookies. You can't do that with thirty kids in school.
