Good blog on VAERs data

I thought this was a good read on the limits and usefulness of VAERS data.

That is interesting. 

It ignores a third category of safety testing - that of the full clinical trial where people given the vaccine are surveyed to look for reactions. I suppose that falls under their "active" category, and is of course what most vaccine safety studies which are published is based on.

I don't think it ignored it per se, just did not discuss it.  The article focused on vaccine monitoring systems  (and primarily VAERS) not testing.
