Moving someplace warmer for the winter-tell me about your area!

We currently live in New England but are hoping to "snowbird" within the next two years. We'd like to find a liberal, safe family-friendly place to spend Jan-April. 

  We are outdoorsy, want to be near clean swimming/beaches ( within 1/2 hour) and don't love crowds. We homeschool so the schools aren't an issue. Money is, though! Someplace reasonably inexpensive- could buy a small house but prefer a condo ( would that exist??) so we don't have to worry about the property from afar...

It won't get you near beaches, but you might check out Asheville, NC. Beautiful mountains, progressive community, lots of homeschoolers, and reasonable COL. Good luck!

San Diego! Lots of great affordable areas for
queer families. We own a small cottage 15
mins from the beach.

Hmmm, We live in NE so I was thinking of the east coast because it just seems easier/closer. I never considered California- I thought it had an expensive COL...?

I think it just depends on where in NE and where in CA you live. I have lived in CT and the COL for me there was much higher than where I am living now in SD. 

I would love to hear about queer friendly areas in FL with low COL.
