post-partum reading list

hi all! I'm a FTM and have just started my official "leave" from work with a full three weeks left until guess date. So I have a lot of time on my hands to clean, cook, rest, and read! I've been loving reading through the thread about herbal remedies today since I have very little experience in herbalism. It's totally new for me and definitely enlightening.

Does anyone (experienced mamas or first timers included) have any recommendations for books they've read about the fourth trimester, herbalism, and/or newborns?

I recently discovered Dr. Aviva Jill Romm's website + blog. I had somehow never heard of her before, but she seems such a wealth of knowledge as a mom, midwife, herbalist, and M.D. She also has a couple of books I'm interested in- Natural Health After Birth: The Complete Guide to Postpartum Wellness and The Natural Pregnancy Book: Herbs, Nutrition, and Other Holistic Choices. (That second title would have been good to read way earlier in pregnancy. But hey- I "plan" on having a large-ish family so it could come in handy anyhow.) A few other titles I've looked at by other authors are: Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year by Susun S. Weed, After the Baby's Birth... A Woman's Way to Wellness: A Complete Guide for Postpartum Women by Robin Lim, Your Amazing Newborn by Dr. Marshall H. Klaus, and The Year After Childbirth: Enjoying Your Body, Your Relationships, and Yourself in Your Baby's First Year by Sheila Kitzinger.

Any other great reads or resources? My husband and I are STOKED on becoming parents, fully expect our world to be rocked by our newest family member, and don't really have any sort of nervousness about "sacrificing" our lifestyle. But still, I'm the sort of gal who likes to be prepared and loves reading, so send anything my way!

aviva romm is a nice resource for sure.

my favorite herbalist is rosemary gladstar. she has some books for women and family that are full of recipes. i may be a little more biased than other mamas since i went to CSHS, but she is a wealth of knowledge.

also good books to have around the house are storey publishing, from country wisdom almanac & country wisdom know-how to, and the little bulletin books are fantastic. i have a ton of those little books from herbal vinegars and canning to dehydrating fruits and other stuff.

thanks, Kelly Beth! I will definitely have to stockpile some of your recommendations for our growing reference library.
