We're getting close now! What's still on your "to-do" list?

Thread Starter

Maybe if we share our to do lists we'll feel a little more motivated to get everything done! I'm at 33 weeks now and am realizing that I need to get to work!

Here's my (ever-growing) list:

To buy:

Order birth kit

Post partum pads
Ice pack peri pads
Hemorrhoid pads
Flushable wet wipes
Sports drink, coconut water
Placenta bowl
Sheepskin (?)
Changing pad cover
Freezer storage containers for food
Baby bath tub
Diaper sprayer (?)
Big grocery stock up trip for lazy meal components

To do:
Secure a babysitter for DD during the birth
Wash all the baby stuff - clothes, diapers, baby blankets, and linens
Bring things up from storage: cosleeper, car seat
Install car seat attachment bar in stroller
Adjust car seat straps
Assemble cosleeper
Find a place to store baby clothes and diapers (top dresser drawers?)

Gather towels, sheets, birth kit, and other birth items in a box
Cook food for freezer

Buy/make some special activities for DD (coloring pages, busy bags)

Make a big library trip to stock up on fresh books for DD

Here's my list:

To buy:

- twin bed mattress

- at least one nursing bra

- diapers (maybe - I might be getting a cloth stash for free!)

- possibly some more baby clothes

- postpartum pads

- a waterproof mattress cover (I bought one for the as-yet-nonexistent twin bed but I realize I need one for the queen as well)

- a bouncy chair

To do:

- turn elderly bedsheet into wipes/washcloths

- set up twin bed beside queen bed in our room

- clean out tummy tub

- wash & clean up car seat

- wash cover of whatever bouncy seat I can acquire

- wash all baby clothes & dipes

- remember where I put my pre-preg clothes

- make freezer meals (I already have one batch of canned soup done... should do one or two more of those too)

- write detailed "how to shop" instructions for whoever volunteers to do it before I'm back in action (I am way too uptight about that but March! it's such a great month for local goodies!!! What if I have the baby before the hothouse opens and I MISS the first cherry tomatoes of the season?!?!?  HORRORS!!!! And how will I make my nettle soup without good nettles??? These things are not negotiable.)

- pay doula (need to do this pronto, actually)

- fix couch cushions (has nothing to do with the baby, but much easier to do before baby than after.  I have 1 of 3 cushions done.)

TO do:

Paint dresser for baby(my childhood dresser, needs it).

Paint crib

Wash bouncy chair cover (just picked it up from a consignment shop).

Wash and maybe re-cover the bucket car-seat we got used
Remember which friend has my glider and hope they are done with it.
Pull out my breastpump and see if it works

Make freezer meals.

Empty baby's closet and find homes for all the things we've stored in there.

Make a huge run to the goodwill so I can fit the stuff that was in baby's closet into the other closets.

Finish baby quilt

Finish baby sweater

Go through diaper stash, wash and figure out what I have/need

Pull out co-sleeper and see if it will work with our bed.

Move the treadmill out to the outbuilding to make room for birth tub and then co-sleeper

Bleach birth tub

Make slip cover for glider

TO buy (waiting until after baby shower):

Birth kit

Changing pad (Do you believe I donated mine to our church in JUNE!)

Changing pad cover

crib sheets (mine went to the goodwill)
highchair (have a while before I need that, but I've been stalking the consignment shops since I'd like a wooden one with a plastic tray and very few crevices so it's easy to clean).

Maybe a swing, not a huge rush for that.

Gack. I don't even know what we still need. I've been avoiding having to think about it. XD

This will be a good exercise for me. Just... not tonight. ;)

Hmmm. This time around, not much to do. Or at least I think not much.

Already Done

I set up the cosleeper next to the bed and got out the baby blankets and linens.

I picked through babygirl's old clothes and dipes and got out the ones we can use this time around.

Last night, I bought an organizer for our room and we put everything on there.

Got the last of the pads I needed for my pad and depends stash.

Started putting together birth kit. Most stuff is around the house and will go in the bin closer to birthing time.

To Do

Some organizing that has nothing to do with the baby, but I just want everything spring cleaned and organized before birthday.

Make Happy Birthday banner for baby

Start baby book and update DD's

Will update if I think of things later

To Buy

Couple of tinctures I don't have

Big sister/little brother shirts for DD to decorate

Bahahaha!  I had 5 things on my to do list until I read everyone else's lists!  Oy vey!  I should prob get busy!

Ha! ha!  I was planning on starting a thread like this, but didn't get around to it.  Should've put it on my to do list!!!2whistle.gif

Right now, I have to sit down and actually write this list.  I keep thinking "Oh, I need to do xyz..." but then never remember what it was!

Our priority is, however, to finish clearing out and organising the room that will become DD's "big girl room" and set that room up.  We're making good progress but it is a sloooooow process!  Once that is done, well, the rest is just details, really, and won't be such a big task.

I would however, like to:

-load up my e-reader with books for those first weeks where all you do really is nurse, nurse, nurse

-order or find something like this: http://www.momzelle.com/nursing-clothing/nursing-bands.html

I"m sure more things will come up as I read other's lists!!!

I agree that there is something about the arrival of a new baby that makes me want to clear out my kitchen cupboards!!!!

Oh, wow, you just brought back memories. For some reason I scrubbed and scoured the TOP of our fridge a few days before I went into labor, both times. I have no idea why because I 100% ignore it the rest of my life unless we're moving. And, really, it is impossible to reach the back of the top of the fridge when you are a few days before having baby. What was I thinking??

And, I just reorganized our counter in the bathroom where I expect to be near the birth tub.

A baby bath - we had one with DD and it worked really well, DH and I both liked it and DD loved it - bath time was never an issue (as long as we had nice heated towels for after).  I picked one up for $10 a while ago and it's been outside so it's a little grimy and just needs a good cleaning.

The thing I really liked about it was that the baby is completely immersed and floaty - you just need a finger under the chin to hold them up.  Here's a pic of DD in hers.  She's obviously a little older in that one and trying to stand up... it's not much good past 5 or 6 months but by then DD was sitting up in the bathtub just fine so it wasn't a big deal.  My sister had one too but she wasn't as fond of it as I was - one of those "great if it works for you" things.

ooo! That looks cool, spughy!  I am wondering how long I'd be able to use it for one of my little ones... They are HUGE!!!  DD2 gained a lb a week for the first 10 weeks somehow. yikes2.gif  With both her and DD1, I wasn't able to use the baby stuff for very long. Our baby bathtub was used for like 1-2 months, by 2 months they were too heavy for the basinett and both outgrew the infant carseat by 4-6 months depending on the kid.

Hmmm...the things I want most to do before Rowan arrives I cannot afford to do yet. 1. Get a bigger fridge/freezer. 2. Buy more yarn to finish knitting baby blanket. 3. Get DH to bang together a corner shelf for baby's clothes and diapers.

So, even though I would love to get freezer meals ready, we have NO ROOM in our teeny tiny apartment sized fridge. Also, I want to get out all my boxes of baby clothes and wash them but until DH builds the shelf, I'll have nowhere to put them.

I DO still need to switch some furniture around in my room with the spare room. We have a big desk and filing cabinet in our room and DS2's clothes and diapers in the spare room. I want to move all the baby stuff into our room for ease and have an "office" to write in across the hall.

And I REALLY want to wash all the cloth diapers so they are ready but we are out of soap AND we need to switch out our high-efficiency washer with a top loader we've got, but DH says it is too heavy for him to do alone. UGH. So I may be making a trip to a laundromat.

Wow, I didn't even realize before writing this that I had that many things to do.

Ummmm.... pick a name for her? LOL

I'm taking notes from all of your lists! Since we just moved, right now I'm primarily just trying to get the rest of us settled first. But I'm almost 34 weeks and its starting to sink in how very close we are to her arrival!
Oh My Gosh! I have sooo much to do. We have to move house too and haven't yet found a suitable place but I'm trying to ignore that reality to avoid freaking out.
Sure there's plenty of time, you gals are just super-organised, right?
(Deep breaths....deep breaths....)

All I'm thinking is that baby and I just need one comfy bed, everything else is just trimmings.

EXACTLY. Try not to stress. As long as baby has you and you have a place to rest you are good!

Oh!!! We have that exact same one! We just called it the bucket!!!!

Yeah...good point though about cleaning it!!! I should get on to that also!
