We're getting close now! What's still on your "to-do" list? - Page 3

All these to-do lists has made the gears start turning so I thought I'd participate, too:

I still have afterease tincture and sitz bath spray from DD's birth, I've saved all of her small cloth diapers and covers, cloth wipes, baby blankets and some onesies (although no newborn sizes, boo). Theres not much more to get then, thankfully:

-chux pads
-incontinence pads (last time I got overnight pads and they weren't quite up to par with what I needed the first few days--i cant stand leaks)
-coconut water
-easy to prepare foods
-something to help the belly button heal (goldenseal?)
-a squeeze bottle for cloth wipes solution

I think thats about it. We got an extra mattress for co-sleeping, that was my biggest concern this time around. Another thing I need to do is talk DH into making me a placenta smoothie after birth. He will probably make fun of me but hopefully he'll be sweet and do it anyway.

  • I've finished backing my just-in-case hospital bag (and am keeping it stored in the car seat so that it's fairly likely to make it to the hospital eventually if that's where baby and I go.)
  • I've printed off two copies of the emergency phone numbers (DP's cell & work, MW, parents, brother, hospital, and DSS's mom) and put one copy on the fridge and one in my hospital bag.

THANK YOU for reminding me to do this!

I recently tried to enter my midwife's emergency pager number into my cell phone and realized that the phone is so far gone that I could not even get the number entered. I seriously need a new one but hate to spend the money because I seriously never use the thing!

Oh, yay!  We have gotten a bunch of stuff done recently-- we were sort of putting some of it off because of even MORE pressing business to-dos, but we were inspired by our baby shower on Saturday to make a dent in our list and I'm SO glad we did.  To review (changes in purple)...

-Continue BlissBorn classes and practice-- 2.5 hours/class xOnly 1 more class! Though we will continue to practice ~25 minutes every night.

-Go to/have MWs appointments (duh for us)-- 4-6 appointments x2-3 hours each

-Attend one intro breastfeeding class (might be review, but I think a good one for me)-- 3 hours

-Attend one babywearing meeting/practice with wrap, etc.-- 3 hours

-Have car seat installed/inspected-- 2 hours

-Choose pediatrician-- Did this, just need to fill out paperwork (maybe 1 hour max)

-Buy the last of the birth supplies-- .25 hour left

-Buy the last of the baby essentials-- Maybe 1 hour left to spend BRU gift cards (we didn't register there, but they have enough of the things we need to be useful!)

-Wash/prep diapers and create (and post in laundry area!) diaper washing routine-- OMG DONE!  Except for sunning some with stains (maybe .25 hour active time)

-Dye/cut off white onesies/shirts-- 2.5 hours left-- I organized them and figured out which I'm going to dye which colors, etc., but will wait to dye them, as it's not a super-high priority

-Wash/prep all clothes and linens and some other used items-- Almost done today!

-Practice diaper folds and EC holds!  Read (DH)/re-read (me) EC book-- 2 hours (me)

-Reorg and set up the (master) bedroom to accommodate baby (pretty big!)--  Maybe 2 hours left!  I can't believe it, but we were able to reconfigure such that I don't think we'll have to buy much to store baby things (I thought for sure we'd need another dresser and shelves, etc.)

-Do a dry (wet!) run with the birth tub-- Did it!  Went well, though we learned 2 lessons: 1) buy a sump pump so that draining doesn't take forever and 2) DEFINITELY turn up the water heater when the time comes.

-Make one last wholesale club run to stock up on staples (including giant frozen meals)-- 3 hours

-Decide what to do with the placenta (pretty sure I'll/he'll be cutting it up into "pill" chunks to freeze)-- Done-- changed our minds, we're going to use it as food for a tree in spring

-Finish homebirth/hospital transfer birth plans, set up HB supplies for MWs, pack "just in case" hospital bag-- 1 hour left-- made good birth plans, though I am going to get my MWs' input to edit the hospital ones down a bit more, and we still need a couple minutes of work on setting up supplies (though we partly did) and packing a hospital bag

-Attend shower and write thank you notes-- Attended shower, notes should only take 1-2 hours between us.

-Create "I'm in labor and need to shut down my online stores!!!!" routine/customer email/out of office message/etc.-- 2 hours

Wow!  I can't believe how much we got done in just about 5 days!

---

Okay, I definitely have "pregnancy brain" now.  I have had my moments the past 8 months, but I'm also off my ADD meds, so I generally blame any fuzziness on that.  However, SEVERAL times today and yesterday I have done weird things (like gone looking for toothpaste when I wanted toilet paper), and only caught myself after I had gone pretty far down the road of weirdness.  I've also written totally bizarre stuff-- like above, I counted Saturday through Wednesday, inclusive, and wrote "3 days," when I totally was thinking 5 days.... but I only caught it when I reread the post.  I've also typed wildly different words than those I intended...  I'm sure I didn't even catch them all!  We all do those things from time-to-time, but it's been really egregious and noticeable in the past 48 hours, LOL.

Buko - you have been busy.  THANK YOU for reminding me to make a note to turn up the hot water heater in March!!

Light Forest - no problem.  Both DP and I have all the numbers stored in our phones, but I just wanted the numbers extra clear in case my mom (or someone else) was with me and needed to do the calling, or whatever other random (and probably unlikely) circumstance my paranoid mind could think of.

Thank  you for reminding me about a note, too! I need to have Pete change the water filters right when I go into labor, which could also be a great time to hit the temperature up on the hot water heater. It only takes about 5-10 minutes to change the filters, but you get the best water pressure for the week after you change them. So, we want them brand spanking new when we have to fill that tub. :) The plan is to change them if I start having mild contractions in the 10 min apart range (which happened both times I went into labor last time). Worst case, it's a false alarm, but best case they are the precursor and we're ready to go with great water pressure.

To do:
  • Secure a babysitter for DD during the birth: We've interviewed 2 sibling doulas and I think we've made a decision... Am going to sleep on it before saying for sure...

Okay, I'm not looking at anyone else's lists any more since it's just making be think of things I should probably do!

I'm actually feeling good about where I'm at. There are a lot of things I'd like to get done, but at this point we've accomplished almost everything that is absolutely essential. All I need is the birth kit and a couple things on the supply list my midwife gave me. I plan on getting that done and then doing the rest at my leisure, totally worry free. If it happens, it happens. If not, I guess it wasn't that important!  Procrastination works for me anyway. I'm already doing way better than I did with my first son. With him, I packed my hospital bag on the morning of my induction at 42 weeks.

All that's really left is to attend a couple baby showers and install a car seat. tada! - 3rd baby and too lazy to think of much more = really low goal setting.

And pay off my doula . . good thing she is a friend.

I've got the car seat left to do, no baby showers (thank heavens), batteries to install in the bouncy seat, a drawer to clean out, baby clothes to wash, hospital bag to put together.  That's it, I think.  Oh, no buy another mattress too.  I guess that's kind of a big one.  Oops.

Good think I'm 99% sure we're not having a 3rd.  My goal setting would be along the lines of "push baby out. feed baby."

Oh. I guess I should pack a hospital bag at some point. I tend to do that once we know we are heading to the hospital; some things I can't pack until last minute anyway.

Okay, now revised to eliminate what has been done...  And we've been nesting a bit this weekend, so maybe we'll get some more done today.

-Go to/have MWs appointments-- 3+ appointments x2-3 hours each

-Attend one babywearing meeting/practice with wrap, etc. (doing this tomorrow)-- 3 hours

-Choose pediatrician-- Did this, just need to fill out paperwork (maybe 1 hour max)

I still need to install the carseat.

LightForest - what is the sheepskin for?

Just remembered one I've been putting off for a while. I make my own soap and other bath products and I was planning on putting together some gift baskets for my midwives. I should probably get started on that!

Alright, I've been moving steadily along in getting prepared... Here's what's left:

- birth plan in case of transfer
- finish packing the birth bag (may not happen until we are leaving for the birth center- just need to add toiletries, phone chargers, other misc stuff)
- figure out and buy labor snacks/drinks, also post birth food
- wash cosleeper sheets, also wash swing cover
- install car seat base
- send thank you cards for gifts
- file taxes (waiting for business taxes to be completed first, which are already underway)
- remove final clutter left from moving/unpacking (hanging pictures, etc)
- add a few more freezer meals and snacks, as time permits (already did lasagna, split pea soup, twice baked potatoes, muffins, tofu)

After a month in our new apartment, we finally have a washer and dryer as of yesterday. So I'm going laundry crazy! It feels great to have so much stuff done. I feel like even if I don't get to some of the tasks I listed, we are still pretty prepared!

Yeah my list is confusing because I jumbled up some labor/postpartum supplies with baby needs.

I use the sheepskin in the baby's sleeping space (cosleeper/hammock/floor/our bed). Makes an amazing mattress pad. It's also so nice as a chair pad or small floor rug, so the usefulness outlives the tiny baby months much better than most blankies/playmats.
