We're getting close now! What's still on your "to-do" list? - Page 4

Hmm, I'm trying not to stress out too much over this stuff since I am not due until the very end of March, but here is my To do/To Buy lists...

To do:

- Install carseat / turn DD's forward facing (I also desperately need to clean and vacuum out my car, since it looks like someone is living out of it and that person could probably survive off of all of DD's cracker crumbs in the back seat)

- Set up the co-sleeper

- Pull out all of the bouncy chairs from the attic

- Set up the pack'n'play for downstairs

- Get a haircut (it's getting too long, and I can't imagine having time after baby is here)

- Make freezer meals

To Buy:

- coconut water

- pads

- a new nursing tank would be nice

- new accessories for my breast pump for when (and if) I go back to work / also needs a new face place since the old one got dropped and cracked

- a new baby swing would be nice since we sold our old one for some unknown reason

- would love a new recliner/glider but definitely not a must have.

We Have progress!!!!!

Last night, DP and his brother installed DD's new big girl bed, and tonight, he is setting up her dresser.  This is a huuuuuge step in getting ready for the arrival of this baby!  It means I can finally start clearing things from DD's "baby" room into her "big girl room" and start going through the boxes of baby boy clothes we've been given by friends.  Right now, every thing is just kind stacked in DD's room.  The whole house is chaos actually, but I feel like there is finally a task that I can do.  So far, reorganising the rooms involved heavy lifting and minor repairs that I couldn't really participate in, considering emptying the dishwasher is a huge ordeal right now!!

We still have a few random things to do:

-buy a new pair of glasses or repair my present pair.  My vision is 200/20 and right now I'm living in my contacts lenses; not cool during labor and those first few weeks with a newborn!

-find a basinet for our room; we have  a crib but moving it to our room is a pain in the butt.  If we can get our hands on a second hand bassinet, that would be ideal

-COOK!  I made la list of freezer meals, even made a grocery list for them, but I'm waiting to be on mat leave (I finish work March 1st) to start cooking!

Speaking of work, I've been tying things down there, and it looks like I"m ready to leave as I can be, so at least that feels good!  Only a few more things to photocopy for my replacement, but that's it!

I was starting to stress about our new master bedroom not getting done on time... I'm 35 weeks, and there is still a LOT of work to be done, and this is where I intend to labor and birth, so it needs to be mostly done before baby! (New floor, take out exterior door, extend the half bath wall to make it a full bath later on, take out a coal stove and patch the roof where the chimney is.... ).  DH just told me that he hired his friend who is a contractor to spend the whole day on Saturday to knock out as much as they can!!!  I feel so relieved (DH was going to try to do most everything on his own, but he has limited free time).

This makes me so happy.  :)

Update time!

38w4d...  Still To Do:

-Continue BlissBorn practice (finished classes)-- ~25 minutes every night.  (Been doing this, just a continuation)

-Go to/have MWs appointments-- 2-3+ appointments x2+ hours each

-Choose pediatrician-- Did this, just need to fill out paperwork (maybe 1 hour max)

-Dye/cut off white onesies/shirts-- 2.5 hours left-- I organized them and figured out which I'm going to dye which colors, etc., but will wait to dye them, as it's not a super-high priority

-Reorg and set up the (master) bedroom to accommodate baby (pretty big!)--  Maybe 1 hour left!

-Create "I'm in labor and need to shut down my online stores!!!!" routine/customer email/out of office message/etc.-- Pretty much done, maybe need to finesse-- 1 hour left

Sort of Done:

-Wash/prep diapers and create (and post in laundry area!) diaper washing routine-- Need to sun some with stains (maybe .25 hour active time)  (Okay, but I guess I have to do my wool, too-- .5 hour)

-Finish homebirth/hospital transfer birth plans, set up HB supplies for MWs  Pack "just in case" hospital bag-- .75 hour left

Done (since last week):

-Attend one babywearing meeting/practice with wrap, etc. (doing this tomorrow)-- 3 hours

-Buy the last of the birth supplies-- .25 hour left

-Buy the last of the baby essentials-- Maybe .25 hour left

-Practice diaper folds and EC holds!  Read (DH)/re-read (me) EC book-- ~1 hour left (for me)  (DH has to read his EC book-- I am feeling mostly okay w/review I did last week)

-Attend shower and write thank you notes-- Attended shower, notes should only take 1-2 hours between us.

Wow, I am really pretty much there-- can't believe it!

@39w3d...

All I really "have" to do (besides have MWs appointments and continue practicing BlissBorn, which are indefinite until baby comes) are the following:

-Fill out pediatrician paperwork (planned for Thursday, though not strictly necessary before birth)

-Dye/cut off white onesies/shirts-- Would really like to get done, but not totally necessary-- planned for this weekend

-Wash/prep wool diaper covers-- Also NBD if I don't get this done

...and DH has already started his EC reading in addition to everything else he's done, so that's looking good!  Yay for accountability!

I hadn't had a list here before, so don't have anything to update, but I do now finally have a "pre-baby" list! smile.gif As soon as our group here started having babies, I went oh boy, there are some things that *really* need to be taken care of. So here's what's left (it still feels like a long list...):

For birth specifically:

Buy the few remaining things on our midwives' list

Put all the birth supplies in the same place

Pack a hospital bag for just in case

Get feedback on backup hospital birth plan from midwives, and print multiple copies (put in hospital bag)

Buy hose and adapter for filling up birth tub (and liner?)

Practice setting up and draining tub

Stock foods for labor (for me and birth team)

To buy:

Car seat!!! We had it on the baby shower list just in case, but now I need to go click the button myself. smile.gif

Dresser that can also work as a changing table

Few remaining things from registry that would be nice to have (absorbent blankets, etc.)

To do:

Make appointment to meet the pediatrician we think we want to use, and go meet her

Practice diaper folds/changing

Get a diapering space set up (where are the clean diapers going to go? Dirty ones? Wipes?)

Cut flannel into baby wipes, and maybe sew edges (if my sewing machine works, and if I have time)

File taxes

Send baby shower TY cards

Move our bed so we have room for the pack and play or sidecar

Watch "The Happiest Baby on the Block" (I read the book, but would like my husband to see the little film, so he has some ideas of ways one can soothe a baby!)

Okay, maybe that's not quite as bad as I thought. We can handle all of that in three weeks, right? Heh.

Nicely done, buko!!

Thanks, chocolatechip!  I think you're fine.  I had TONS to do with 3-4 weeks left, and look where I am!

Good job everyone! This thread made me get really serious about making my list a few weeks ago. It got longer and longer and longer the more I thought about it. smile.gif

Now with 20+ things finished and checked off, I feel so much peace. Here's the stuff I still have to or just want to do:

Lanolize wool soakers
knit 1 pr leg warmers
knit1 pr socks
buy tankless hot water heater system + install
buy new shower curtain
install toilet in bathroom
have birth foods and snacks together in box
Get a wetbag
get buckets from bakery for dirty diapers
install washer & dryer

There. That's not so bad. smile.gif yay!

hikingfortruth, I feel like my list kept growing too! And then became manageable again. And now is maybe growing a little again. But at least now it's all listed in one place, and I can cross things off, and that *does* help immensely. smile.gif

Thanks for the encouragement, buko!

It's like I'm nesting but without the "burst of energy" crap other people (who clearly have no other children) talk about. I just have a sense of urgency to get it all done.

Looks like you're in the same boat though! I love that your DH reads books, mine wouldn't. :-/

Oh, please-- it was an accomplishment to get him to read anything at all.  I was impressed that he made it a priority to read like 3 books about babies and pregnancy, etc.  He's highly-intelligent, with a prestigious Master's degree... but he just learns best by doing or watching or MAYBE listening to me or someone else talk.  lol.gif  (Meanwhile, I read almost compulsively.)

But since he is interested, he has watched about 1000 YouTube videos completely of his own accord.  I am not lying when I say he has seen at least 5x as many homebirth videos as I have, watched every EC video out there (and a few on CDs) and while I have yet to view a pregnancy "vlog" (unless he showed it to me in bed) he actually has his favorite ladies.  ROTFLMAO.gif

It's pretty cute.

biglaugh.gifLove it!!!

We're picking up a dresser today that I found on Craigslist that's super cute and affordable (?!?), and I've ordered a couple things on my list! On the downside, the pediatrician we'd decided to go meet apparently stopped practicing in our neighborhood last week, and has moved to downtown. BUMMER. Another woman is coming in to open a practice, who the first pediatrician recommends, but now we don't have any other recommendations for the new one (and our midwives and a friend both suggested the other one). Sigh.

Lol well good for him! My dh is just lazy. Did great in school but has read less than 10 books in his whole life. He doesn't watch birth videos or anything like that. He basically lives moment to moment, no preparations. Drives me insane.
