Home birth-how do I explain/not explain? « Back to Group Discussions

So, as my username would suggest I am a nurse, and sadly many nurses I work with don't see home births as a viable option. The discussion at work came up as to which hospital I was going to give birth at (only two in my city have maternity wards) I just said that we haven't decided yet and left it at that. I'm not super keen on telling people, as I don't want to argue with the "don't you want your baby to be safe?" and all the "horror stories" people have. 
Any advice?

Ooooo that is a tough one. I would probably just say whichever hospital you would be transferring to in case you have an emergency and then tell them after the fact. Some people might surprise you but if you already know their opinion on the subject then why add more stress in your life by having to work with unsupportive and possibly gossipy co workers?

Ya thats a tough one. I would probably do what talldarkeyes suggested if you are wanting to avoid dealing with unsupportive co workers.

I wouldn't tell them either. Those conversations can be super stressful and people whip out all kind of horror stories to try and scare you into changing your mind.   You don't need that.  Tell them AFTER...cause then they can't say anything! ;)
