Daughter's 1st Birthday... How to honor this day?

I'm looking for some insight from others.  My daughter's first birthday is at the end of the month.  I want to do something special, but not in the typical smash a cake up and shower her with presents kind of way. Not that that wouldn't be so much fun too!

But I want to treat her birthday as a day to honor not only her arrival into the world, but as also the day that I went from a girl to a mother, and the day my husband went from a guy to father... I want to have some kind of a ceremony or something spiritual to honor this day.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, what about a reading, something special that speaks to you.  As the years go on this can grow into something more to do together. Making the day something to look forward to.

Something fun...take a picture somewhere special every year in the same place.
