Weekly Chat Jan 20-26

Hi ladies! Thought I'd start a chat thread. I'm not committing to always starting one, but we could make Sundays the start of the new week, so feel free to start future threads!

I'm 7w today and was beat today. My husband is a pastor, so Sundays are full with having my two kids in the service with me by myself. I also had a study with a high school girl this afternoon, so my nap was abbreviated. Then we had an evening service! But! That's just one day, and I can take it slow tomorrow. Do many of you have work tomorrow? It's a hard job to work and be pregnant and I commend you.

It's very foggy in Seattle tonight, but we had a sunny day.

What do you ladies have going on this week? I don't have a lot, and have some DIY projects behind me. I just updated our bedroom with light paint (it was blue). It's a big improvement because our room faces north, in SEATTLE (cloudy), with a porch out front, so we hardly get ANY decent light in, and all the light is cool light, no warmth. So I changed the paint, and also antiqued two of these Ikea dressers for night stands. We have a taller bed so these were the perfect height. Added some pretty neutral (cream and black floral) Target curtains, and it looks nice.  My last short project is to spray paint a mirror frame black and get two 8x10 prints of my photos to hang beside the mirror above a new larger dresser.

I also did some other projects, inspired some by Pinterest. So I'm putting that behind me and am slowing down now that I'm pregnant. So now I can sit around on mothering.com once my kids are in bed, LOL!!

Oh! Does anyone watch Castle? My DH and I borrowed the first three seasons and are enjoying it. Our other favorite show is NCIS. And Downton....

Thanks for starting this. According to my U/S, I'm 7w1d today. I'm overly exhausted. I can't sleep enough. I have to have food in my belly at all times or I get nauseous. This is so different than my first pregnancy... Which was symptomless.
This week, I work 65 hours. My only day off is Wednesday and I have an U/S at 915. smile.gif That's pretty much it.
My son, who is usually Mr. Independent, has been more needy lately. I can't decide if it's teeth or if he senses a change coming. Only time will tell... He's almost 15 months old.

Evening! How can we help? What are you taking to reduce nausea? I just read through the long Hypermesis gravadium (however you spell it) thread on the pregnancy board and it echos what I had done to reduce nausea (taking milk thistle).  Has anything helped you so far? Ginger, Sea Bands?  I also just added more magnesium (this time orally) and think it might be aiding me as well. I just have a very low level of nausea here and there, and I attribute that for two pregnancies now to the milk thistle.

oh man @ hours!! What do you do? I have some friends in Indiana....

Hey I'm a VBAC too! Going for my second one this time. :)

You know, my son, at the same age, went through stage like that. I also was pregnant at the time. It lasted about a month, and he became more independent after that.  He'll be 4 in April.]

Your signature story is too funny.

I have to do a translation tomorrow and have choir in the evening. I'd like to get housework done, but am not counting on it. Otherwise, my day is pretty free. I know I promised my brother we'd chat and I should call my mom.

I took it easy all weekend.  Dh watched my oldest dd while he worked on his truck in the garage, and I got lots of spinning done and book reading while my youngest did some art projects and napped on the couch.  Dh even cooked dinner.  It was nice.  Although now the house is a wreck :/  Dishes and laundry to do plus clean kitchen.  Ugh.  At least dd doesn't have ballet today because of the holiday.

I had my u/s this morning which went well!

I used seabands with my last pregnancy and they did seem to help.

I've been trying to get out as much as possible; if I'm busy or visiting people I don't notice the nausea. We've got loads of snow here at the moment, so I've been taking my daughter sledging. She's outside with DF at the moment and I'm jealous because I want to join them, but just don't feel up to it. I'm hoping he gets snowed in tomorrow. Here in Scotland we get snowed in if there's a few inches, we're not at all hardcore!

This afternoon I'm permanently hungry because there is the amazing smell of slow roasting pork shoulder, and I just want to eat the whole thing now! I've got a bowl of prawns to keep me going for now though.

The weekend was a great balance of fun and relaxation for me although I had plans for many more projects than I actually got accomplished. On Saturday we went cross country skiing which was my first time in years (I used to do it competitively) and the fiance's first time. It was ridiculous fun but my legs were sore after and so we lounged about the rest of the day and most of Sunday morning. Sunday evening we do archery stuff which was awesome since I'd missed it last week due to being in Seattle for the weekend.

I'm working this week which is, meh, not my favourite thing but I'm not quitting until this baby is born.

As for pregnancy stuff, I'm still barely getting any symptoms. Sometimes a light cramping which I don't mind because it's a reassurance that yes, I am actually pregnant without being too obnoxiously painfull. No nausea but a lot of hunger (this baby is a tyrant about being fed) so I am packing a lot of snacks at my desk at work to stave off hunger headaches. Oh and also my internal temperature regulation has gone all to hell, I used to be someone who was always cold and now sometimes I'm too cold at random intervals and sometimes I am way tooooooooo hot in exactly the same situation.

We have plans to move into a new house at the beginning of February, but I have zero motivation to do any prep for it! I am 6.5 weeks today and my girls have been babysat by Disney movies today. My last two pregnancies I felt a bit queasy, but this one I have been feeling like vomiting. It scares me because I am emetophobic and I hate living my life in fear of vomiting! Candied ginger seems to be helping along with a B complex vitamin at night. I love working out and have been procrastinating for my move by walking and knitting. smile.gif

aidenn - I should send you my candied ginger. My MIL gave me a whole bunch of bags for my last pregnancy. I know she was trying to be helpful, but I HATE GINGER! I've been slowly pawning the stuff off for 2 years!

I've been feeling queesy this pregnancy too, which I didn't with my first. Of course, now I don't have the option to just lay down and nap like I did the first time, I have a toddler to chase, so that could be the difference! Other than that though I'm feeling okay. I also realized that during my first trimester last time I was working part time, not full time, so I'm sure thats a difference too. I work 40 hours a week now and will until probably mid August. Canada gets 1 year paid maternity leave but the amount paid is based on how much you earned in the previous year, so the more I work, the more I'll earn while I'm off on mat leave. I'm hoping very much to not have to go back to work when my maternity leave is over... even as tired as I am, going to work every day is a lot easier now that there is an end in sight!

I noticed that this morning. Almost as if keeping my mind occupied gives me something to focus on and then I don't have time to feel odd.

One year is pretty awesome. I've been researching paternity leave for DH and he gets 12 weeks unpaid, which is better than nothing. I'm self employed so I can take as much (or as little) time off as I want. Some of my clients have already mentioned that they wouldn't mind me bringing a baby along. My bookkeeper has also offered to provide cheap daycare, she pretty much raised her son at her place of work (they own the building).

Our weekend was spent taking care of miscellaneous errands. We bought a new printer, took the aluminum recycling (I got $5, woohoo!), put plastic on the windows (now that winter is almost over...), and DH mopped the floors.
Then I had a very short discussion with him about food and eating because he wasn't understanding that I'm not hungry and only want to eat when I can think of the taste of something and about 50% of the time I feel slightly queasy. Communication is good. I think he got the message that he'll have to fend for himself for a while.

My week ahead is just my regular schedule. I usually have somewhat of a break in the afternoon and I've taken a blanket and pillow to work so I can take little naps between clients.

I went to Portland this weekend to visit my friends' one-week-old baby. He was absolutely delicious and I spent a long time nuzzling his head. I also spent several hours teaching my teenage son to drive. He's learning on a stick shift and it has been a pretty challenging and entertaining journey. He's getting a lot better at three point turns, though. We're telling him today that he's going to be a big brother - that should be interesting. My wife and I have a rare day off together today, which is spectacular. And I have book club later... too bad I've been too braindead and tired to finish a book for book club.

I think we both get the 12 weeks of FMLA leave, and we will use sick time and vacation time to make up for the wages. I imagine with infant twins, we will probably need every minute off that we can get. FX that I don't end up on bedrest and waste that precious time.

We're really lucky here because my DF gets two weeks paid paternity leave, and if I was working, I'd get a year's full paid maternity leave.

Hi ladies! I'm 7w3d today. Had my first appt and ultrasound. Everything looks great. I've been so nauseated and throwing up every morning and sometimes in the afternoons too. I don't work right now. I am lucky enough to be able to stay home with my dd, she's 18 months old now. And I watch my nephew and sometimes my nieces once a week. My dh gets I believe 2 weeks paid paternity leave (he's military). Other than the nausea I'm super super tired. And gassy. Haha

The weekend already seems so far away.

I slept in on sunday AND got in a late afternoon nap, so when I started getting things ready for the week, I ended up being up til 2 am.

Work seemed extra early this morning.

I am 4w 5d and starting to feel the nausea. I wonder how this one will go. With my DD, I threw up EVERYTHING well into second tri. My DS it was way better, nausous all the time, maybe getting sick once a day. Has anyone noticed a difference with carrying boys vs girls?

7w6d today.  Had first midwife consult, but appointment isn't until Feb 21 when I'm 12 weeks.  Should I change it to 10 weeks?

The big stress is planning a wedding for next month!  DF and I wanted to get married this Spring before I got pregnant, but other people thought it was too soon so we figured we could wait a bit longer.  But now that baby is coming I just want to be married and not worry about it so I can focus on being pregnant.  We already feel married but I'm really excited to actually BE married to him.

We're having a small (20 people-ish) wedding in the park.  Not fun telling my dad about all this yesterday, but got through it and now I'm feeling awesome about everything and finally excited, which is a big relief after weeks of anxiety and indecisiveness.

Not feeling too queasy today, just a bit.  Nausea hasn't been too bad for be, just certain food repel me and make me feel kinda sick at the thought or at the smell.  Still pretty tired...will that ever go away?

Congrats on the wedding Kali! And I'm sure that's such a relief to finally have it all out in the open. And no, the tiredness never goes away haha. It got a tiny bit better for me in the 2nd trimester with my dd but not by much. And then in the third trimester it was a tired like I had never experienced before.

With my first, I felt really good during the second trimester - normal energy. With my second, I always had some level of tiredness, so I'm expecting that this time.  Thankfully at this phase of my life (ie not homeschooling yet and not working) I can slow down when needed.  My main objectives for the day are feeding the kids and having dinner ready.

We had a tasty dinner tonight that HIT the spot for me. Asian BBQ Chicken with creamy Kale Gratin (has buttery panko bread crumbs on top and heavy cream in it...yum). It tasted so good! And I had some yogurt with raspberry jam in it that for a snack also was exactly the taste and texture was just what I wanted. I would like to start making raw milk yogurt again and my order starter tonight. I still napped today but didn't have any nausea. I think the milk thistle has really paid off! I'm so thankful.  I know some women have started it during the first trimester and found some relief after a few days.

I wanted to exercise but didn't. It's a challenge for me to get it in.

Hi ladies!

I decided to join a bit early, but hey, I'm excited! I took a HPT today after pretty much *knowing* I was prego and my period being 5 days late. I have a 3yo DD so I'm so scared and excited about baby #2. My EDD says Sept. 29 based on a silly online calculator so this baby might come in Oct. but my first did not. She came on my due date!

Feeling lots of cramps and backaches! I tried SO hard to lose the baby weight these last 3 years and didn't lose much. I'm about 50 pounds heavier then I was with baby #1 and really worry about weight gain and my overall health. I'm hypothyroid and have Hashimoto's Thyroiditus and am currently on Nature Throid which I just started taking. Talk about crazy timing! Wow!

Trying to have a really healthy pregnancy doing a "primal" style diet with some dairy and as much exercise as I can stand. I'm currently having zero food aversions and am actually craving good stuff.

Lovely to be here! ;)

Welcome! I struggle with my weight too, so you're not alone!
