fully thawed chicken

Hi, yesterday I took out a package of 5 frozen chicken breasts. I left the house in a hurry, forgot them on the counter,returning this afternoon. It`s been just about 23 hours, the chicken felt about room temp.. I opened up the package, they didn`t smell so i put them in a crock pot right away. I`m questioning the edibility of the chicken. What do you think?

Officially-- unsafe. 

But personally I would probably use it especially if my house was chilly, which it is.  It was hours before it actually thawed and for me I just wouldn't consider a half day thawed at room temperature too long.  Imagine the time before refrigeration existed--yes meat would last 24 hours unrefrigerated.  We couldn't have gotten by otherwise. 

I would cook it thoroughly of course.

I would not eat it. Not all harmful bacteria is killed by cooking.
