18 weeks kicks ONLY on lower left side- ideas?

I am 18 weeks (16 since conception) and have felt kicks/movement for at least 3 weeks now.  This is my 6th pregnancy to this point and I have never felt kicks like this before.  The kicks are off to only the lower left side.  I've always felt kicks right in the middle at this stage.  (Once the babies are bigger, at about 30 weeks I have felt kicks mostly on one side, but certainly not this early.)   I have a fetascope and can hear the placental sounds- no heartbeat yet.  The placenta seems to be also on the lower left side toward the middle front.   I have relocated since my last birth and I am looking for a new midwife, so I haven't had an appointment with anyone yet.  I have felt my fundus to be at my belly button and I am feeling larger than I have in the past pregnancies.

So, any ideas?  I am in a state that is not friendly toward the cpm so I a finding that a problem in my search for a fit for a midwife.  It seems everyone that fits is too far from me.  My husband is fine with an unassisted birth, as am I, but I have this question of "what is going on here?" and I don't want to have an unassisted birth that leads to a transfer because of something like twins or ???  I suppose twins could be a possibility.  I've had a hunch.  I really don't want to use u/s.

I would love to hear any thoughts.  Thanks!

I wish I could help.  My only hunch was that the placenta was blocking the feeling of the kicks on the opposite side.  Anyone else have any thoughts?

I would say anterior placenta because the lower left side is the only place where I felt kicks for quite a few weeks. My placenta is anterior but off to the right and up a bit. Now at 26 weeks I feel kicks still mostly on the left lower side but I can feel other bumps and head-butts in other places too.

Anterior placenta would be my guess as well.  My placental placement was confirmed with doppler & ultra sound.  Now at 24 weeks I have only just begun to feel kicks and bumps in other places besides down low.  It took me quite a while to feel much movement at all, and with losses in my past that was unnerving.  I get so thrilled at every little movement now!

Best wishes on a healthy pregnancy, homebirthy stillheart.gif

Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes. I thought about anterior placenta as well. But I can clearly hear the placenta is off to the left. I have listened all over the right side and have heard only digestive noises, except way far over to the right where I can here placental sounds again but very soft. Probably just the placenta sound making it's way from the left. Could it be I am feeling the cord? Hmmm. What a great wonder pregnancy!
