I'm dreaming of shopping and crafting for baby... anyone else?

I can't wait to start knitting squishy warm woolies for the baby.  I'd also like to buy a new wrap...  anyone else started shopping or just dreaming of picking a few things out yet?

I can't figure out what wrap I want yet.  I was drooling over a didy orient, but they're hard to find right now and the one I had my eye on just sold.

oh I am! I have been planning new CD stash for days.  I'm gong on vacation in July and wan to have all baby stuff ready by then, and sewing and knitting with pre-s, and toddler running around will take a while so I figure I better start early.

Also thinking of a new carrier as well, I have a ring sling (been through 2 babies already) and a beco (I really like for older baby though)

I have recently learned to crochet as well so I;m thinking to crochet so wool diaper wraps as it is much faster than knitting. I can't wait to shop for yarn and fabric!

what is your fav yarn? I made a ton of stuff so DS2 with malabrigo marino and love how soft it is!

I've been somewhat careful about the shopping... so far...

I know I'm getting a hoard of stuff from my sister, including car seats and a stroller and if we have a girl, a pile of clothing. I'd take the clothing regardless but she has ideas about gender and clothing that I don't have. I'll be thriftshopping and getting hand-me-downs from friends for clothing as well.

My fiance is building our cosleeper sidecar thing. I've been plotting some knitting and already started a sweater and some hats for both my babies and others (there are 3 babies due in the family this year so far).

The big pricey items I think I need to acquire are cloth diapers and carriers.

I looked through the Ikea catalog yesterday, specifically the baby section, 3 pages, that's it... Been staying away from the baby area at Target etc. I don't want to scare DH too much, he's still processing the fact that I'm pregnant and there really will be a kid in 9 months.

I'm a knitter but so far haven't felt the urge to make anything new. Still working on my resolution to finish all 2012 unfinished projects.
I love malabrigo sock yarn, it's sooo soft and only gets softer with washing. Sadly it also starts felting soon so I don't think I'll be using it for socks anymore.

Never tried sewing though I think I might be good at it, but I really don't need another hobby!

This is too hard to say! The baby sweater I am making is out of a deeeeeep red madelinetosh and it is super soft. I'm also working on a cowl for myself in Manos del Uruguay Maxima and it's kind of like knitting with kittens. But I'm not sure I have an overall favourite. When I started knitting I didn't think I would end up a yarn snob but here I am... one of the first pieces of advice I received about knitting was about always choosing yarns I would want to wear against my skin and not bothering with anything less than that.

For newborns, I love purewool.  I used to knit with a shop on hyenacart and got into all the hyenacart dyers then like mosaic moon, elliebelly, western sky knits, etc, but I also spin and dye my own sometimes, too.  I haven't hyenacart shopped in *forever* though - I've gotten more into semisolids and solids lately.  My fav pair of woolies I knit for dd2 was this pair that I dyed myself:

We have all the basics - lots of clothes (unless this one is a boy!), the carseat, cosleeper, etc, so my buys will just be "fun" stuff.

Splath, I love those!

Once I feel better I'll be thinking of lots of things to knit and crochet. I'm hoping to go out and buy lots of wool before the January sales end. I'm also trying to teach myself to sew, so there's lots of things I could do with that as well.

Splath! Oh my those are adorable!

We are basically starting from scratch, we recently moved across counrty and didn't bring any baby things.  I don;t need much just the basics. we cosleep and have a king bed already, we will be playing musical car seats and moving everyone up so baby will use the convertable.

here is my list so far:

24 nb gmd  prefolds and snappis (buy)

24 one size sherpa fitteds (make)

new Mei Tai (make)

4 NB diaper wraps/covers (make)

2-3 NB longies (make)

basic clothing: shirts, sleepers lots, socks, hats, booties.

This will be my first cooler weather baby so I;m not sure how to attack the wardrobe.  My first 3 were all born in TX in the spring and lived in a diaper and tee shirt the first 6 months of their life. lol

I made a little "eeep!" at the overwhelming cuteness when I saw this picture.

We have virtually nothing since our "baby" is 16 and we're expecting 2, but I'm hoping for a lot of hand-me-downs from my baby-having friends who are done. We are working on a secret list/registry, just to help us keep things straight, but I don't know when we will actually feel confident enough to sew/knit/shop for the babes. How soon do you start?

also, splath, that photo is ridiculously cute. thanks for posting it.

I think I won't buy / do anything till the 20 week anatomy scan or I emotionally feel a connection to the baby, whatever happens first. It still hasn't fully sunk in that there will be a baby in nine months.

But I'm sure that once the grandparents are told, things will get bought ROTFLMAO.gifHopefully not too much stuff, since we live in a different country from them.

When I was in grad school looking up baby stuff was my procrastination tool of choice. After discovering cloth menstrual pads and sewing a stash for myself and my sisters, I began learning to sew diapers and baby stuff too. I think I have over 30 cloth diapers made, a mixture of prefolds and fitteds made from cotton t-shirts and old flannel sheets. I tried to make some longies from old wool sweaters but I am not sure how they will work/if they will fit as I haven't had a baby to try them on. If the longies don't fit I figure they can become doll clothes later on. I've made a couple onesies and some pants out of old clothes.

I haven't made anything lately. I will probably wait until after the first trimester and when I am hopefully feeling better and more energetic. When we do start creating/crafting I would love to share pictures.

Splath, that picture made me ovulate with all the cuteness. wink1.gif

I am a knitter as well, and am having the worst time because I want to make ALL THE THINGS at once.
I spent 40 minutes in a yarn shop yesterday trying to decide between Malabrigo Rios and Madelinetosh for a wee little blanket, and just failed. Least fun I've ever had yarn shopping.

Thanks everyone smile.gif
I have felt like knitting nothing lately greensad.gif although I do have some fiber on the wheel that I've been slowly spinning.

I definitely want to get some postpartum mama cloth pads for me this time too.

First little boy is only 18 months old, so I have all the stuff from him, especially if it's a boy, but if it's a girl, she's going to be in blue sometimes! I sewed all his cloth diapers, so I still have them. 30 newborn size, and then a whole bunch, 20-25, not sure, that we are using now. I've just started his first 2 pairs of training pants, so at least we're set for diapers, although I want ot make a few more specially for this baby.

I make Mei Tais, and I think I might want to make a new one for this little one. We'll see.

I also crochet, and I'll be on Ravelry.com looking for cute stuff to make. I think maybe some wool diaper covers, we used all PUL last time, and it would be nice to have wool.

Oh yeah, and some homemade mama cloths. Last time I wanted to but didn't, and regretted it.

You all have inspired me. I started a Puerperium Cardi in O-Wool Balance (50/50 organic wool and cotton). It's sooo cute.

I definitely want another Didymos.  Wish I still had my old one.

Thinking I should buy a sewing machine and learn to sew.  Hmmm.

Tell me more about sewing cloth diapers, is it fairly easy? Is there a big difference in cost efficiency? I got a sewing machine for Xmas but haven't used it. I'd love to try making some.

Prefolds are pretty easy to make, since you only need to sew a strait line... You can make them out of fabric you have around the house, old flannel sheets, cotton t-shirts, old towels. Google "frugal diaper sewing" and you get will some ideas. Diaper sewing helped me become a better sewer because I tried harder patterns with elastic and curves as I got used to it and a little braver.
