my house smells bad

when i walk in my front door, for the past 2 days, it smells quite funky. i tried putting vinegar in a bowl, i tried baking soda in the carpet and then sweeping, but the smell is back. i don't think it's coming from one thing in particular? i don't know though.
i might try putting some water with lavendar in my humidifier.
any suggestions of anything else i could do?

What kind of smell it is? I would find the source first and then attack it...

it's just a weird smell. :LOL that helps, huh? just kind of all over. i bet it's the carpet. i need a steam cleaner.

We just bought a Bissell Pro heat steam cleaner... it works great and isn't that expensive. Believe me, it's worth it! Good luck! I hate carpet odors... aghhh

Cleaning the carpet would be the first thing I would do, if I had carpet :LOL I hate the stuff. I would also cook up some spices (cinnamon, cloves, allspice) with orange peel and water. Bring it to a boil and then turn it down and let it simmer for a few hours. Add more water if it gets low.

Do you have a garbage disposal? If you do put a bit of baking soda and vinegar down there and let it sit for a minute before you run a bit of water and then run the disposal. Sometimes when the house smells funky it turns out it's my disposal.

my houe had a "musty" oder that I could not figure out where in the heck it was coming from....for a WHILE. Well we were doing a bathroom remodel and took up our old flooring...the WHOLE SUBFLOOR WAS ROTTEN AND MOLDED...ewwww. apparently the toilet had been leaking into the subfloor. After the subfloor was replaced we had no more smells.
it could be a possiblity...hth
