Right, this is what I am after. I'm prepared to write my own materials here, but I'd like to check first that this doesn't actually exist before reinventing the wheel.
I have a son who is, shall we say, somewhat interested in physics. (this is quite a big understatement). What I'm after for him is a workbook. But this kid likes maths and its a part of how he understands the world. So I'm after a basic mechanics workbook with the maths in, but at a level suitable for a (maths-appreciating) 9 year old. (he's pretty good at maths, and I'm confident could cope with the level of maths needed for simplified mechanics)
I seem to be finding two options: either books that are too dense and not even slightly fun, aimed at older kids, or books that are aimed at younger kids but without the maths and equations and laws that he wants to understand what's going on. He wants a systematic approach, also.
What I would really love is the Miquon approach, very much about learning through experiment, to physics, with an explicit approach of not shying away from the maths side.
There seems to be a fair bit of stuff out there aimed at not putting off non-mathsy kids from physics-which is awesome, because physics is awesome-but I actually can't find anything suitable for an elementary age, mathsy kid. Seems a little odd.
SO has anyone seen anything like this?
(oh and if anyone has anything for the other sciences-especially chemistry and geology-that would be awesome too)
Between my partner and I we can absolutely write him a load of materials to work through, probably even with the cute cartoons, but tbh if someone has done this already I'd rather save myself the time!
ETA Disclaimer: Not wild about making any distinction between kids based on being "mathsy" or "non-mathsy". My personal feeling is that there are people who love math and those who have yet to love math ;-) .
