Delayed Schedule and finding the right doctor

Thread Starter

I'm curious how most people have been able to find support for a delayed vaccine schedule. We started our first child on the normal routine vaccines including the rotovirus vax at 2 months old.  Sadly, she did not tolerate the schedule very well and we had quite a scare which was dismissed as a random event but then kept happening after every series so we halted all her vaccines.  Our second we've delayed.  We were fortunate enough for the past 4 years to have a wonderful practice that is pro-vaccine but knowing our situation completely supportive.

I'm trying to figure out when we move across states how to approach this subject and find a doctor that would also be supportive and I'm concerned with how we present things to them to be accepted into the practice.

Any recommendation?

Generally I think family practices tend to be more accommodating than pediatricians.

Ditto what Rrrrrachel said. Also D.Os (osteopaths).

I also doctor-hunt through massive networking. Here on MDC, you can go to the Find Your Tribe forum and post in the sub-forum for the area where you're moving. You can also check with a local branch of Holistic Moms Network. Sometimes chiropractors, naturopaths, and out-of-hospital midwifery practices have this info. Facebook groups for natural parents, Babycenter, Cafe Mom, and maybe even Kellymom are all sites where you can network. MDC is just now starting a list of vax-friendly doctors. If nothing else, find out if the state where you're moving has a pro-vaccine choice organization and contact them.

A lot of do's aren't any different than md's, ime, but they're not a bad place to start!
