I had always gone into labor in the middle of the night so I was expecting the same thing this time. On Friday, January 11th I started having some mild cramps and just feeling "birthy" after dinner, about 6:45. I wandered around the house, throwing the pillow case of baby stuff (blankets, towels, diapers & baby clothes) in the dryer to warm, spreading out the shower curtain on the floor in front of the birth tub and gathering towels and blankets downstairs in the family room. We quickly put the kids into jammies and had them go to bed early for some quiet time, the littles went to sleep and the older two could stay up reading in their rooms.
I chatted on FB with a friend and played a FB game, waiting for things to pick up. After about an hour things started to pick up and I spent some time on my hands and knees, leaning over the futon. The baby had felt posterior and I wanted him/her to turn over. Once I felt that happen things picked up quickly! About 15 minutes later I climbed into the birth tub and about 15 minutes after that the baby was here. #5, the tie-breaker (already had 2 boys and 2 girls) was a boy! 10 lb 6 oz, 21", born about 2 hours after those first cramps.
