After all this talk of kefir I decided to swing by Whole Foods this morning. I'm lactose intolerant and I've got a minorly inconvenient skin reaction to whey so has anyone tried the cultured coconut milk "kefir"? I picked up a lactose free one for now, just want to avoid the skin thing if possible. Also, does anyone make kefir with goat's milk? Does goat's milk have whey?

It's fine to make it with goat's milk. I've done it a few times and it works just as well. You can also get water kefir. It's a different type of kefir grain and you just put it in sugar water instead of milk and it produces a slightly fizzy drink which is very like lemonade. You can also flavour it however you want; I've made it with a vanilla pod and it's like cream soda.

they sell kefir at trader joes, whole foods, our local food coop, and grocery stores that have at least a decent "natural foods" section.

i thought the nausea and MS would get better but it's actually getting a lot worse this week. i am ready to crawl in bed and stay there for as long as it takes.

Ultrasound showed a single intrauterine pregnancy! Still too small for a heartbeat so I go back in another week. They didn't tell me exactly what the bean was measuring date wise but it was 1.9mm, I am 6 weeks 1 day.

Tilly, you must be close to me if you go to Pasadena! I am in the LA area as well. Sherman Oaks to be exact. I've never tried kefir before, or even heard of it I'll be honest, but that's great that so many are having success over nausea because of it!

toothfairy - hooray!!! Glad to hear your u/s went well! :) That must be an awesome feeling!

AFM I haven't had any nausea yet, but I have been very tired and having pretty sore boobs. I'm only 5 weeks 4 days today, so I guess there is time for it yet. If I'm lucky I'll avoid it altogether, like my Mom says she did! Counting down the days until our first u/s... 11 1/2 more to go! biggrinbounce.gif
