Ok, this is what she said :"You can eat, but limit your eating to proteins and whole grains."

Also, I was instructed to drink 100% Welch's grape juice but got juice cocktail instead, by accident, so I threw the whole test off. I didnt consume as much sugar as a result. So we did the test at 50 minutes instead of 60. My MW is certain that this was a fine way to go about it, I just hope my mistake didn't botch the chance of an accurate result.

It's ok, the test itself is pretty botched anyway, even if you do everything right! winky.gif

For those of you who did the Glucola, how much of it did they make you drink?

A bottle. However much that is...

I'm asking, because mine was poured into a cup, and it wasn't very much- maybe 6 oz?

I'll check mine at work on Monday, but it is a small bottle.

Mine is 10oz.

Yuck, I hate this test. I have to do it on Friday this week. I can't fast because I will either faint or puke in their waiting room. I just do high protein breakfast so I don't screw up my own results.

I really agree that routine testing is unnecessary, but I go along with it as it doesn't bother me to have a little blood drawn and it is one less thing I am "being difficult" about during pregnancy as I decline and refuse a lot of other stuff, especially during labor, so I try to save up my difficult points for the things I care more about.

This is why I do it to. I think the test is stupid and I am not a risk for it but there's also no harm in it and it makes the doctor(s) happy. I guess I am going with a 'pick your battles' route with this test.

Oh, man, the Downton Abbey thing I saw coming a mile away as soon as they said swollen ankles. So sad. greensad.gif A woman died from it on one of the early episodes of Call The Midwife, too. Not what I want to watch while pregnant. :'(

That was so sad on Call the Midwife! That was the first episode I saw too.  :-(

I've got mine today!  Not particularly thrilled.  They didn't say to fast or anything beforehand, so I'm hoping it's okay that I'm about to eat a sandwich...

I had my GTT on Friday, I had to drink a 10oz bottle of 100% grape juice and was finger pricked an hour post drinking it. I passed (110 with a cutoff of 140).

Loogiejane, My midwife doesn't check urine either, at least not yet.

Yeah, I asked her last week about the urine testing. She said not unless my blood pressure gets high. She also said she could give me strips if I really felt like testing but that in terms of what she deems necessary there's no need unless high bp.

Only thing I can think is maybe it was more concentrated? Who knows, the 1-hour test seems to vary a lot in how it is administered!

I noticed this when comparing stories with friends - some of them were given five minutes to drink it; others had to chug it in a minute!  They definitely encouraged me to drink mine as fast as possible, which led to a bit of brain freeze.  It felt like pregnancy hazing!

So how long does it take for them to come back with the results?

I'm not sure, I don't think they even called me last time, just told me I passed at my next appointment. I would assume a few days to a week depending how long their lab takes to process it?

Whether the test is done at your clinic or sent out to a big reference lab, they should have results in 2 days or less. This is a really routine test and fast to run. My practice said they would hear from the lab the next business day and only call if there was something abnormal they needed to tell me about - no news is good news. fingers crossed you hear either nothing or good news!

Mine said the same thing - if they have something they're concerned about, they'll call. Otherwise expect a letter within 7 days saying it's normal.

Thought I would update since I started the thread with anxiety about it. I made sure to eat well the past few days and this morning just in case. After our ultrasound this morning showed the babies were still pretty big (measuring about 1+ and 2+ weeks ahead) and the perinatal OB highly recommended I do it. So I marched upstairs and drank the orange stuff (really not that bad, totally like flat pop) in 5 minutes and then my husband and I went on a walk for 30 minutes. The other 30 minutes we sat and read, and I wasn't feeling so hot but I lived. They drew my blood and I didn't pass out, and am now waiting on the results. They said if they call today, then there was a concern about the results, and if they don't call, then expect a letter within 7 days saying it was normal. I can also check my results online, so I bet I'll get that today either way.

It really wasn't so bad! Let's just hope I don't have to do the 3 hour test - now that sounds not fun at all!

*edited to add* I passed the test! My result was in the middle of the normal range. So I guess I just grow big babies! yay big babies!

Glad it went well for you Jessica on the not-passing-out front. My test is tomorrow! And honestly, that's awesome that your twins are measuring a bit ahead smile.gif
