okay, need a place to process my thoughts. I was just Dx w/ strep two days ago. I took my son, almost 3 yrs, in to be checked b/c he said his throat hurt (but he fairly often says this). So it was a new doc and he must fear looking at a kids throats b/c he said if child has a sore throat and has been exposed they often just treat w abx. so he never even looked at sons throat. he did check his ears and said they appeared bulging, thus ear infection but he doesn't complain of his ears.
so if it is an ear infection, I think I'd rather give him anti-inflammatories, some chiro and some immune boosters b/c that has worked well when he was smaller (> 1 yr ago). If its strep, I would treat for sure, I think. I'm treating myself despite my fears of thrush (I'm bfeeding a 4 month old). I read that its rare for kids under 3 to get strep and he has zero other symtoms.....hmmmm, I'm conflicted. I should have demanded a culture on my son but its a new doc and a new health care system in general for us, so I wasn't confident. WWYD if you are one that doesn't readily jump on the abx bandwagon unless really called for.
