Breakfast Ideas

I need some ideas for filling breakfasts. I used to eat eggs and uncured bacon every morning, but with morning sickness I haven't looked at either in over a month. I have tried oatmeal, yogurt, toast with jelly, smoothies, and biscuits. I have not had this many carby things first thing in the morning in quite a while and I find myself to be starving at about 9:30 after eating breakfast. I'm considering breakfast burritos or some kind of hashbrown casserole, any way I can sneak some protein in there. Any suggestions? I miss my savory, filling breakfasts!

I might not be much help. I have two fried pastured eggs with buttered toast almost every day, and raw milk and cod liver oil. I have found that a bigger breakfast keeps uncomfortable feelings at bay that otherwise hit mid morning.

A couple ideas:

toast with butter and peanut butter (fat and protein to satiate you)

toast with butter and then put a slice of cheese on, stick back in toaster oven to melt

toast with avocado, lime juice, salt and pepper

All of my ideas are on the medium of toast, lol. Do you like goat cheese? I saw a recipe on pinterest for goat cheese and avocado lightly mashed and then spread on toast.  I'd of course add salt and lime.

I used to eat this for breakfast at work every day but it didn't fill up as well - plain yogurt with grape nuts stirred in. Yogurt never fills me up very long.

I am in the same boat. I'm thinking a breakfast burrito might work. Or maybe egg and cheese and sausage on an English muffin... I can't do sweet in the morning although I did eat yogurt with sliced bananas and a drizzle of maple syrup this morning.

If you strain your yogurt to make Greek yogurt it's much higher in protein. I lived on Greek yogurt with pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice with my first pregnancy.

Maybe I will try the breakfast burrito and scrambled eggs on buttered sourdough. Thanks! Can't wait to feel normal.

there are a lot of good ideas on this thread. if you can bear oatmeal but it doesnt fill you up, consider steel cut oats. 1/4 dry cup has 8g of protein. if i add nut butter, it fills me up for a good while. another thing you can consider is high-protein waffles or pancakes. we used this recipe as a starting point (we sub in whole wheat pastry flour for white flour, add peanut butter, sub something more high-protein for the oil, and so on... whatever you prefer) and they are pretty delicious. they hit the "carb craving" spot for me, but they stay with me longer than regular carb-tastic waffles.

Do you just stir nut butter into your oatmeal? What is that like? Oatmeal certainly fills me up, but no matter how much butter, raw milk, or sliced almonds I stir in, it never seems to stick with me for more than two hours. Boo.

Yes, I do the same thing with my oatmeal sometimes. Just stir the nut butter right in and then add all sorts of nuts, seeds and dried fruits. It's yummy!!! Another way to make oatmeal more filing is to make it with a mix of water and whole milk. You will be amazed how sticky and melt in your mouth good it turns out. The only thing to watch out for is that when you warm milk almost to the boiling point it can scald or even worse boils over the top if the pot without any warning! It's one of those kinds of foods you have to keep an eye on until you put the oats in and bring the temp down.

yeah, i usually add a tablespoon or two and stir it in. it gets softer and kind of melty. i like it.

i also make a lot of high protein smoothies that fill me up. nut butter, greek yogurt, milk, ground flax, hemp protein powder and fruit. i can get like 35g of protein in a smoothie and be full for 4 hours! in case you can't tell, i am semi-obsessed with eating enough protein these days.

My morning breakfast has mostly been smoothies of late: 1c. whole coconut milk, 1 T coconut oil, 1/3 c protein powder (I use egg white), 1/2 banana, 1/2 c frozen berries, and a dash of agave. Spice of your choice for flavor.

You can make either sweet or savoury.

I am making progress - the last two days I have had an egg on sourdough toast. I actually enjoyed it, and feel so much less ravenous mid-morning. Perhaps morning sickness is subsiding.

Cantaloupe with cottage cheese. Eat with a spoon :) I can't eat anything I used to eat for breakfast right now, so I'm resorting to "sorta bland but still healthy".

I've been having porridge every morning along with a glass of kefir. I don't usually eat porridge because I follow the primal diet, but since the morning sickness started it seems to be the best thing to fill me up and stop me feeling unwell for a wee while.
