Due Feb. 1st, our sweet 7lb5oz Lyra was born at 6:13pm on 1/31/13!
I had regular, mild contractions that were just like uncomfortable toning contractions (BH) the evening before around dinner time. Right before bed I noticed light pink bloody show and decided to go to bed expecting to be awoken some time in the night. Instead, the night was restful but the pink show and mild contractions continued. Around 7am the contractions became slightly more intense, still completely manageable and the pink show became more like the beginning of my period. We called the midwife to come and check and I was at 4-5cm. She left us to our work and we made a cake and hung around the house snacking and talking. Dh and I tried to go for a walk but it is pretty icy here and the walk only lasted about 200ft. Oh well. As the day went on the contractions became more intense but never closer together. I squatted, lunged and walked up and down the stairs through the ctx. Finally, around 4pm we called the midwife to come back. Once she arrived I think my mind let go allowing my labor to move quickly forward. The midwives set up for the birth and I started feeling pushy. On a stronger contraction my water broke in a large gush. After that I started pushing in earnest and after 4-5 contractions I pushed her out. It was a lovely birth witnessed by three midwives, my mother, my best friend, my 7 & 5 year old daughters and my husband.
Now we are resting and recovering, thoroughly content and happy. Blessings for peaceful births for the rest of you Feb. mamas.
