Copy and pasting my mass text Bettie update:

We are here another day. Going home was not even discussed, because Bettie has not kept down anything aside from breast milk. She is still vomiting. Today the are running a bunch of cultures and blood work to hopefully find some answers. We are in room 771.

Oh, Ash.  I cannot believe she's still vomiting!  I'm SO sorry!  Do they not have any idea what is going on?  If she's keeping down breastmilk, but not solids, has it been considered to just let her ingest breastmilk for a few days without trying solids?  I imagine her system is so irritated that she can't handle anything else right now.  But if she's getting breastmilk, she's getting nutrients... what are they doing for her in the hospital that you can't do at home- is she still on an IV?

How are your other kids doing with all this?  Are you getting the help you need?   Thinking of you!

The doc was very clear today that the only reason she is not in IV nutrition is because she can keep down breast milk. I am SO glad I am still breastfeeding! She actually had a comparison chart and breast milk has more absorbable calories and nutrients. She is still dependent on the IV, because her Labs are showing that she has not recovered from the dehydration and even with keeping down breast milk her sugars were dangerously low. She started some meds this morning that should help reduce any inflammation in her stomach. We actually had luck with her eating half a saltine today.

Grace is having a hard time, but Phoenix seems to be ok. They are going in between grand-parents. They came out for lunch today and their grandma sat with Bettie so me and DH could eat lunch with them. You could tell they were both relieved to see everything was Ok and spend time with us.

Ash, thanks so much for keeping us updated. I hope Bettie is healed and you guys are home ASAP.

Hugs Ash, I hope Bettie is well soon'

We are still stuck in AR... I'm doubting we will ever leave at this point.

I hope she recovers soon, Ashley. It's really hard seeing your baby go through that. greensad.gif

Oh, Ash... I am so sorry you guys are going through this. This winter has taken a toll on everyone's immune systems, it seems! I'm glad to hear the hospital has been accommodating for you guys and that Bettie is at least in good spirits through it all. I hope you get some answers soon and get home to your other kiddos. You're in my thoughts...

My kids are just constantly coughing. It's that rattling sounding cough. Should I be worried about that? I haven't really worried so far. The rattling stops after they cough, at least for a while. So, it seems to me that they are at least able to break it up by coughing. DD1 just went through another bout of running a high fever for the last few days. She started Monday night and it finally broke Wednesday morning. I just wish winter would end or the weather would decide which season it is. We have days of 50-60 degree temps, quickly followed by 20s and below. It's insane. I have missed so much work since Christmas because either one of the kids is sick or I am. Last week is the only full week I have worked since before Christmas (the weeks before Christmas were also filled with sick kiddos and snow days).

Greta is doing well other than her cough. This child's feet grow so freaking fast! I swear, the moment we find a pair of shoes that fits, she grows out of them. I'm going to go broke buying her shoes. Of course her foot is shaped much different than DD1's, so most of her shoes won't stay on Greta's feet. She is currently wearing a pair of shoes that were DD1's, she wore them when she was 2.5 years old! Now, DD1 has always had pretty small feet compared to her peers, so I guess it's no surprise that Greta would be wearing bigger sizes than she did. Can you tell I've spent my morning shoe shopping??

We made an offer on a house last week that was rejected. Our house is still on the market and it just seems like no one wants to negotiate with us until ours is sold. This is the second offer that was rejected because of the contingency. The house we want has been up for sale for 1.5 years and no lookers in almost a year (my cousin is currently renting the house from the owners, so she is keeping us in the loop), so we're not too worried about it selling to someone else for the moment. We're just very anxious to sell this one now. DH is finally motivated to finish up the last couple of projects he's been working on, then we are going to lower the price and have an open house. Not sure if it will help, but it's really all we can do right now.

Ash, what hospital are you guys at?

We are at Mary Bridge.

We had a very rough night and some very traumatic tests this morning. We are back to exclusively breastfeeding for a while.

I saw on FB that the official diagnosis was gastroparesis... this sounds like an adult disease caused by other conditions like eating disorders, cancer, diabetes, smoking, surgery, etc.  What would be her trigger?  Just her recent stomach virus?  Could they determine nerve damage from the endoscopy?  How do they treat this in a toddler?  Could it be linked to her food allergies?

Oh Ash, I'm so sorry! grouphug.gif Bettie is in all of our thoughts. How is she holding up today? What do the doctors say as far as treatment goes?

Thank you everyone. In children it can be caused by a severe stomach virus. If vomiting is so intense that the stomach lining becomes inflamed, it can just shut down. In her case, everything is moving incredibly slow and her body is basically rejecting it. They are starting her on Reglan today, which speed digestion and encourages the right intestinal muscle movements. We will try solids in a few days, after the stomach adjusts. When she holds down solids we will know that everything is working as it should.

I am lucky enough to have friends in the medical community who I run things by. Everyone seems to agree with what the docs here are saying, and the docs here have been very open to running the tests my doctor friends are suggesting.

I'm glad that you're getting such good treatment, Ash!

Side note... if anyone is trying to pm me, I ran out of pm's for today.  FB me instead!

Fingers crossed, we may be out of the hospital in 12 hours! We will continue at home and after care, but we might actually see our own beds.

I'm so happy to hear it Ash!!!  Is she keeping solids down now?

Lets call them "solids" haha. Mashed banana, baby food puree, jello. No actual foods for a while. After no vomiting for a few days we will start Pediasure.

Does anybody know an organic/gmo free Pediasure alternative? I need to order it ASAP and probably have it over nighted.
There is probably a pediasure type recipe online. There are homemade baby formula recipes. Something like milk, eggs, coconut oil, etc?
Organic baby formula plus flavor? I'm glad she's getting better.
