Weekly Chat ~ Feb 4 - Feb 10 - Page 2

Ah, it is finally Thursday!  Only one more day to go after today.  For whatever reason this has felt like a loooonnnnggg week for me!

Kate, I hope you enjoy your classes!  I know with DS it was just nice to meet other to-be parents more than anything and know that all of your fears, etc. are totally normal.  I stayed in touch with 2 of the moms through my whole year of mat leave and into the next year (although we've since fallen out of touch) and it was nice to have them to go for walks/coffee etc. with.  Also, I am with you on having to remind myself that babies do come early.  It's a tough balance.  DS came 8 days late and I felt like the last five weeks were a year since I kept telling myself "it could be any day, it could be any day..."  So in my mind this time I have until the middle-ish of May, but with a May 2 due date I could just have to the middle-ish of April!!  At the same time, I don't want babe to come two weeks late and again feel like the last month is a year long, kwim?  And the maternity clothing mystery continues...I did have all my stuff from last time and honestly a lot of it was out of style!  So I hope there aren't any pieces you are missing too badly.  I hope you had a nice visit!

Co - Wahoo! on the vanity find!  That's great.  I don't really have any advice to give about the skin on skin.  I think if it was me I would mention it to everyone at the hospital and mention it again to the doctor closer to the scheduled C-section date.  Hopefully you are right and all he needs is some time.  Oh, and UGH to the size comments.  I think it is so rude too.  And how do they expect you to respond to that?  "Ya, I am practically a house this time.  Guess I better cut back on the doritos". eyesroll.gif My mom made a comment weeks back about how I am bigger this time and I just responded with "actually I am measuring bang on for my dates, the same as I did last time".  All she could say was "Oh."  Good for you for being so polite about it though.

Katie - Good to hear that you don't need to pre-pay at your preferred hospital, but all the insurance stuff that you ladies south of the border have to deal with makes my head spin!  Thank-goodness for public health care!  We do have insurance for extended benefits like dental, prescription, chiro, massage and the like, but it is all (usually) veerrry straight forward. Cool that you get to see your online buddy!  A girl I went to highschool with actually met her DH gaming online, so you can really get to know people well that way it seems!  I am not a gamer, and neither is DH (unless you count NHL online with playstation, which I don't think is really "gaming") so I don't know much about that world or culture.

Time, I'm glad you had a nice time with BFs DD.  It sounds like you really click with the littles, that's so nice.  Kids love it so much when grown-ups make an effort to be interested in what they are.  I used to be much better at it, I should work on that.  I do hope you and your BF catch a break soon!  It seems like you've both had some bad luck lately.  And I hope your new belts and exercises help with the SPD.

Bailey, so great that you are feeling better and that the chiro and physio is helping too!  Chiro has been a live saver for me this time around.

Amanda, I would be going for a massage weekly if I were you!  lol.  It's nice that you are getting a shower, I hope that it isn't too awkward for you with DHs family.  Oh, and I now want a donut.  There is a place in town here that does a bacon donut too.  It is really crispy bacon pieces on top of a donut with maple glaze.  Yum.

So I had called in December last year when I got a few EoB saying they weren't covering anything for my first MFM visit as this seemed incorrect, luckily I hadn't used all my $$ in our HSA yet so it used that up to pay for most of it. When I called, they explained that only my OB is covered for the 90%, specialists and labs done outside her office have to meet the deductible first then they start paying 80%. I'm like, well that sucks, but ok and once they pointed it out I saw where it was saying that in my benefits. Anyway, so I get an EoB from my January visit to the MFM the other day and they covered that one 90%. So I call, somewhat hesitantly cause I am sure all that will happen is they will decide not to cover the January visit eyesroll.gif and initially that is what they say, but then she looked closer and the Dr. they billed it under this time is listed as an OB and since it is an OB they are covering it, the first doctor is a MFM. I saw the same doctor, very briefly mostly I saw the U/S tech and nurses, both times so no clue why it is being billed differently and I don't remember his name because I barely met him. So I guess I will have to see if I can get them to bill under that doctor's name, but who knows if that is even my doctor lol.gif
(For context, the MFM does my ultrasounds since I'm having twins, my regular OB does everything else.)

AmandaLynnH, oh insurance, see my rant above! If I end up maxing out my deductible because of nonsense, I'm going to be doing the same thing as you booking everything before the end of the year. Hopefully the baby shower goes well! I'd probably just put a tub or two of formula on your registry, that way you don't have too much if you have to switch. Oh and unless you have specific clothes you know you want, don't worry about registering for those, people will buy you clothes regardless, blankets too, just FYI! And if people get you too much of something, don't feel the slightest bit bad about taking it back and getting a gift card or whatever you can use on formula/diapers/etc. down the road. You can keep the chocolate, but otherwise, mmm to that donut!

When we went to talk with our HR rep about insurance because we were thinking of "upgrading" to a plan with a lower deductible and copay since I was pregnant, she suggested this plan.  It ends up being the same amount of out pocket as either of the plans with lower deductibles because it has no coinsurance and the other two do in amounts that coincidentally, when added to the deductible, equal the same total out of pocket max.  The difference is that I just pay up front instead of in small chunks of coinsurance, and, once I hit my deductible, EVERYTHING else is covered (assuming it's in network) at 100% including care for me, care for the baby, medications, etc whereas with the other plans I'd still be at least paying copays and for medications.  Plus it saves us a ton of money in our monthly premiums and we get $300 from our work in an HSA that rolls over from year to year that we don't get with the other plans.  So it was sort of a no brainer since we knew we'd hit the deductible amount (my midwife's fee alone more than covers it), and, if something (God forbid) were to happen, the bills at this point would hit it.

Oh, I have no shame about returning stuff.  Already did that with a couple of items we got from his other side of the family at Christmas.

Baby had been seeming a little slower and moving less but she has been sooooo wiggly since I started it. I think re-positioning my pelvis made it more comfortable for her to move into a better position and I can feel her so much more. I think I need to make a chiro appt soon, too.

How fun for a shower. DH has some awkward family members that we only see maybe once a year. They are nice but very different from me and very nosey and sometimes gossipy but they mean well so I know how you feel about going to the shower. And I would def register for the formula. We use the Target brand too and I have been very slowly starting to stock up too. I should have started earlier but I hadn't decided to not breastfeed until somewhat recently. I get the blue kind. I think it is the "advanced" kind. It is identical to Similac Advance with Probiotics.

I don't mind that side of the family aside from only having met most of them once but DH and his mom (it's his Dad's side and his father passed away 6 years ago) aren't huge fans.  It'll just be your standard family obligation type thing instead of the fun family get togethers.  Considering my crazy side of the family, I've certainly dealt with worse since I'm pretty sure no one on that side hates me and is hell bent on destroying me like my mother is.  Then again, most of them have only met me once or twice so there's still time....

I may increase the frequency of my chiro visits.  May as well since insurance is footing the bill and I've been a pretty cheap client for them for the last 7 years.  Just my bc pills (which they didn't want to cover) and a blip of gastritus thanks to a bad sub from Subway a few years ago.  May as well get my money's worth and show them that requiring my pills to be "medically necessary" isn't necessarily the cheaper option and that I cost way more knocked up than on the pill...  They'll be begging for me to go back on it once I pop this little dude out!

Man, now I really want a donut and, thanks to the cravings thread, gummy worms.

I will go ahead and add some of the target formula to the registry.  I'm happy to see I'm not the only non-breastfeeder here.  I figured I'd be a bit of a pariah for that.

Hi Mamas!

No time this week for myself, work was a bit nutty. I've been in meetings pretty much 9-5 since Monday, although today was only 9-1:30. Oy! Of course that leaves very little time for actual work, which I am trying to fit in now, but had to stop by here, catch up and say hi! I read everything but have no time (nor a good enough memory) to cover it all, but suffice to say, hope you are all doing well and have a great weekend! I cannot wait for it to be here!
