Northeast Storm Babies!

We're in a Blizzard watch, and "they say" that the low pressure can bring on labor just like hurricanes sometimes do...yikes!!  Who's just a wee bit worried that they will have a storm baby??  I'm actually a little comforted that I'm having a homebirth vs. hospital, because I have everything here that I need.

i just posted about this in the chat!  good idea to start the thread.

we're not panicked, but we're not happy about this.  i think my biggest fear about this birth was that it would be in a snowstorm in Feb and my midwife is 2 hours away!

i do have a local friend who knows infant CPR as back up!

i'm not totally terrified, but the little one keeps putting it's hands up in it's face and i don't want a complex presentation w/out midwife!!!!

So funny (but not really), but my little guy also has that problem, hands by his face, and today he was punching so low I think his hands are over his head.

totally so funny but not funny- i just said the same thing to my hubby about the kid going hands first!!!  definitely over the head just a few minutes ago, here's hoping they move!

I was just thinking about this as well!

We're also under a "winter storm warning" with 30cm of snow and strong winds... and I'm getting a membrane sweep tomorrow morning. Luckily, we only live three blocks from the hospital but we don't have a car so we need to take a cab down. This also might mess with my plans of leaving after getting the GBS antibiotics and coming back later in labour.

I should probably haul out my first aid book and brush up on my infant CPR, just in case.

Edited to add: whoops, 40cm, not 30. Also winds at 90km/h. Prepping some candles now.

hope everyone makes it to where they need to be, just in case.

i'm in colorado and we've had snow a total of 3 times this winter. THREE! it's 48 degrees right now with clear skies. i don't trust the weather man here, since they lie are always wrong.

Sounds like I'm under the same warning as you Teles - I'm in London!  Also glad to be having a home birth and only 3 blocks from the hospital if needed.  I am not having any impending signs of labour though so I think tomorrow will just be a "snow day" for me since it will be my first day off work!

Our girl has had one had up by her face at every ultrasound we've had.  It will be interesting to see if she comes out that way!  Or sleeps that way after she is born :)

We are now under a Blizzard warning, got a notification on my Android that scared me when I was driving, lol.

I am a bit nervous since my hospital is half an hour away.  There is "a hospital" close by but they are not quite as supportive of VBACs..I have been trying to naturally induce this baby all week..it would be ironic if it actually worked during a blizzard.  My mom was super pregnant with me during the blizzard of 78 too, but I stayed in until the defrost...

Good luck east coast mamas!

Just made this little connection: my due date according to my first ultrasound was set for Feb 9 (Saturday), the storm is going to peak here on Saturday, and I'm getting a membrane sweep tomorrow morning.

Anyone want to guess when I'm probably giving birth...

We had no luck with two of the storm systems in the past couple of weeks, lol. Today we are suppose to get more snow again from that blizzard. It seems like we always have a storm with lots of snow when I have an appointment.

Started snowing here an hour ago, we're suppose to get up to 2 feet.  Staying home and hoping baby stays in!

Woke up to a ton of snow. DH is out there snowblowing still, I was out for 30 minutes shovelling in the hope that the activity might make something happen, but so far all I did is make my back a little sore. It doesn't show any signs of stopping though, so I'll probably go out and try again at lunch time!

My daughters are going to be so excited for all this snow :)

it started seriously here about an hour ago.  STAY IN BABY!  we'll see you after the storm!

i'm 6 days overdue and either i go into labor naturally this weekend during a blizzard or i get induced early next week for a tuesday delivery. :/

at this point i don't even know which is better....if i go into labor at the peak of bad weather i have no clue how we will even get to the hospital..i live in brooklyn and it's on the upper west side. we don't have a car so we'd be reliant on a car service but if this is anything like the last huge snowstorm, our neighborhood's roads wont be cleared until after the snow is done falling. blah.

7 inches here so far, 3 in the past hour.  And the blizzard conditions haven't even officially started.  Midwife called to check in, I don't see how she would make it, but told me to call her anyway if anything happens.  How's everyone else?

DH has formally requested that I begin labour at approximately 12 noon tomorrow, so he has time to get things done tonight but doesn't have to go to work in the storm tomorrow. I suspect that he's probably the one to ask about some kind of birth request button.

Still perfectly clear here, not a speck of snow yet and no wind. I trust that this is literally the calm before the storm andI figure it'll hit here overnight. UPDATE: Okay, it's now a blizzardy mess outside.

In terms of Baby Watch 2013: nada. Feeling a little nauseated but I think it's caused by stress eating some pizza earlier.

i'm counting my blessings as i woke up at 2 am in the middle of the blizzard w/ contractions.  about 10 min apart.  at 3:30 called the midwife and we laughed about the impossibility of anything being done with no roads and at the worst point of the storm.  she suggested i have a glass of wine and try and not move for a while.  around 5 am i started sleeping between ctx, and by 7am was dozing and forgetting to wake up completely through ctx.

it's now 10am, and i've been having about 10-15 min apart ctx all morning.  so here's praying for a baby today/tonight, and so grateful it wasn't urgent at 3am when it was insane outside!!!

my mother has always complained that i'm a 'slow starter' but she was glad to hear of it this time!  midwife also said to expect a slow-down during the day.  She's still getting snow!

we have at least 2 feet of snow (my husband's Jetta was buried, and minivan pretty much covered too.  it's not snowing anymore- and the roads weren't cleared until after 8am.  but it's looking like a fun sledding day for some short people in my house!
