Livingsky it's probably a girl because all signs are pointing to boy! Dh said he likes Brynn, but he is trying to get me to agree to Allyson/Alyson (he insists on a y in the spelling) but I just don't know! I would call her Ally. My dd's name starts with an A and I kind of wanted to steer away from kids with the same first initial. Which is why Brynn would be perfect. Oh I hope I can get him to agree to it! The middle name is set. It's his grandmothers name and she is from Brazil. I hate the spelling of it. Nair. Like the hair removal product, but it is pronounced more along the lines of Nye-Ear. It is a beautiful name, I just can't get past the spelling. He has already told her that will be the middle name though, so that's that I guess.

MamaMash - That's funny. My first name is Allison smile.gif And I always wished my name had been spelled with a 'y'! Do you think you could convince your DH to keep the middle name sounding the same but change the spelling of it? I totally understand why the spelling would turn you off.

I'd be thrilled if this little bean turns out to be a girl, as I'd love to have a daughter - of course I'd be thrilled if it's a boy as well... if it's a boy it will be a lot easier to convince my DH to have a third kiddo! He says if this one is a girl we'll have one of each and be done but I'd really like three wink1.gif

Livingsky- weird! My husband said the exact same thing, if we had a boy this time we were done. If we have another girl (which it's looking that way from the 15 week ultrasound) he will probably want a 3rd. I hadn't even thought of spelling the name a different way. I will definitely talk with him about that!

Omg I loooove Brynn! And Quinn is lovely too for either gender.

DH likes Sebastien and I'm totally shocked. I have a longish last name that ends with a and is Spanish. It sounds amazing with Sabastien!

He and I picked it based on our love of the movie "The Neverending Story". The main character, Bastian is a curious and brave book nerd who goes on a crazy adventure. I really need to read the book too. What do you ladies think? My DD is loosely based on a certain character from a certain set of tween-saga novels because I'm a total closet fan. But shhh it's my secret! I would love both of our kids to be named after characters in books/movies.

oh tilly, how can you tell us that and *not* tell us your DD's name or at least the series! what a tease! i love the never-ending story, though, and i think that would be a sweet & subtle connection between your kiddos' names.

Oh hahaha I wasn't sure if there were any weird rules on Mothering.com about using your last name. I don't really care if you ladies know it! Apparently girl names are not on my mind, so I'm very sure it's a boy! Here's our top 3 WITH my last name:

Sebastien Peralta

Isaac Peralta

Alexander Peralta

The middle name is hard-- I really want to use my fathers' name (who passed away) and it's Gerald Thomas. My husband hates both and they REALLY don't go with Sebastian! UGH.

I think Gerald Sebastian sounds great! Would your DH agree to using an honor name as a first and calling him by his middle name?

Ahh good idea! I'll ask him!

Out of those three first names, two of them are names I've used already as first or middle names.  I guess we have similar tastes!

I am really leaning towards Quinn for a middle name (how GREAT is Q as a middle initial?!)  but.... I would kind of like to honor my mother in that spot by using either her first name (which she never used) or more likely, her middle name (which she goes by).  Problem is, the name in this country would be pronounced guile, as in the personality characteristic.  Not the prettiest sound.  Altering the spelling takes away the honor, if you ask me.  Hmph.  maybe I just skip the idea, because my mom already knows how important she is to me, and she never was crazy about her name (that she went by), and although her first name is pretty, I feel almost zero connection with it to her since no one ever called her that.

we have the same issue! i really really want to include my wife's father's name in one of our kid's names, but his name is duane. that doesn't really work with any other names that we like. we are trying to think of some other reference to him, like his mother's name, which we like, or something else. it's really hard when you love a person but wouldn't choose to use their name!

I really like the name Araminta, but my fiance was having none of it!

I'll have to post the long list of girl names I suggested to my dh of which he vetoed all but like 6. Such a picky man. And now last night he said just Brynn doesn't go with the middle name but Brynlee does. No. Just no. I live in Utah and every other little girl has a lee in her name. And most are made up haha. iI love the simplicity of just Brynn. And I think it goes just fine with the middle name.

Alexander Thomas sounds good, too.

But I think Gerald Sebastian is my favorite of the three.

I wish my DH would go for Ann Marie for a girl. Ann is my MIL's middle name and Marie is mine and my mom's. He isn't having it though.

I really hope this one is a boy. We have zero clue on a girl name... And I really want my Dexter Thomas Bell!!! smile.gif

Sebastien Peralta already sounds like a characcter out of a book! i think it sounds perfect and i would totally go with it.

as for your father's names -- if your hubby hates both of them, would it be an option to

- look for alternate spellings / variants of these names? i'd just type in "Gerald" and "Thomas" into one of those naming sites and have them spit out all forms of these names known to man. i personally love the Finnish variant Tuomas, for example! haven't researched Gerald yet, though.

- another option would be to honor your father in another way. i've read an article about that somewhere. like, you could use the name of the place where he was born.. or his last name (unless it is Peralta?). i think there are several options to honor a relative that don't necessarily involve their first or middle name.

last one on the Brynn train, yes it's a really beautiful name!! i know a Brynia (not sure of the spelling) but i LOVE Brynn - the short version is just perfect.

+++++++++

as for honoring ancestors -- both our maternal grandmothers were named Maria / Marion. i am wondering whether to use a variant of that as a middle name, if it's a girl. (could be Marian if it's a boy?) does anyone know a good variant of that name?

I think it's a Romany Gyspy name, but I don't know what it means. Alamina is another nice one.

Personally, I think Thomas would sound good as a middle name with any of those.

I love the name Sebastien. It would be on our short list for boy names except one of my good friends named her son that, so we left it off. That's one problem with being the last among your circle of friends to have kids... a lot of the best name choices are already used!!

And I think Sebastien sounds good with Thomas as a middle name smile.gif

tillymonster - I also think Sebastien Thomas sounds like a great name!

Araminta is a greek name. It is so beautiful. here's more info about it:

I love greek names. My #1 girl name is a greek name. I really hope we get to use it!

I agree: Thomas sounds just fine with Sebastien. Really nice name. Brynn is great, too. smile.gif
